Now I'm thinking about a Boxster S
Go for it!! it may not be up to par with what Porsche has in its lineup but what many people fail to realize is that this is the epitomy of Porsche greatness, if you were to test drive an older 911 then drive this, you'll be hard pressed to believe that its rather simliar in driving style and pleasure, this was the case in the older years as to what the original 911 had is what youll definetly experience with the Boxster S, of course its widely known as the "Poor mans Porsche" but fail to a degree that among those who usually comment on that are driving a POS, or have no logical sense of automobile enthusiast history at all.....
i say go for it, it handles great and you'll great luxury anemities that you will never get from the current Impreza, LanEvo, and closely a Fairlady Z33 350Z....
Cheers,
Eiji

OK fine. Then the Boxster is to Porsche what the Civic is to honda, or what the corolla is to toyota. But once again, this has no bearing on the issue at hand. We weren't talking about the car's value in terms of the company's financial situation
Ok this is getting out of hand. We need to see the big picture.
First of all, what do you want in the car? Are you going to track the car? Will this be a daily driver? Do you really want a convertible or would you like to seat 5?
Personally I'd take an EVO in a second. I'm an absolute Porsche nut. It's my favorite marque. However, the evo is the best performance deal around. Stock for stock, the evo would run circles around the boxster as well as mildly modified boxsters. Also, my gut feeling is that the evo would feel like more of a race car due to the quicker steering and more track oriented suspension than the boxster. The evo is also clearly more practical to boot.
That said, there are many reasons that boxsters are great. The quality has been steady increasing since the year that they were introduced. So if you get a 2001 or newer (the S wasn't around earlier anyway, was it?) the fit and finish should be great. Convertibles are wonderful and of all the convertible sports cars out there, the Boxster will be the most comfortable to live with. The handling is great stock, and rear wheel drive is also a plus for spirited driving. (an article comparing a 996 C4S, evo, audi S4, and M3 noted that although the M3 was slower than some of the competition, it may the most fun because of RWD). Finally, although not common, and most likely costly, the boxster can make a decent platform for modification if you want something better than stock (which is still quite nice). If you don't care too much about power, just do intake and exhaust with a chip. Otherwise consider superchargers or engine swaps. Handling is where the real fun is. Porsche could have made the handling a lot sharper on the Boxsters. Get some wider wheels with wider and more sticky rubber. Look into racing type suspensions. I think you can fit a full GT3 front suspension on. Anyway, just so you know there are some modded boxsters out there that are monsters.

Dont buy the least expensive porsche used! Get the Evo and save like 10g's The wide body kits for the boxters do look sweet though, i'm sure once you see the widebody prices & installation you'll change your mind

6 seconds. Ousting a 600+ HP 911 Turbo by 6 seconds is no small feat (of course Paul is a crazy, crazy man!)
There's videos out there, and they are simply disgusting.

With the most aggressive map on day 2, they had the fastest lap time by a massive 6-seconds.
