Window Tint License Plate IL
The house and senate are out until October 14 (well, they're in on the 5th, but I don't believe any real work is going to get done there); they'll be in session for three days, and then in session again from Oct. 28-30. Any amendatory vetoes like this one will be addressed during those two sessions.
Basically, sometime in mid-to-late October, we'll go through the house-to-senate-to-governor process again.

I'm not sure what the procedure for getting veto-session bills to the governor's desk looks like, but if it's the same as before, you're right: 30 days for the speaker to deliver the bills to the governor, and another 60 days after that for the governor to sign or veto, most likely pushing us into January.
Ah well. The march of progress is occasionally a pub-crawl.

If you carry a doctors note, usually its written on a rx paper i think, you can have the tints and the cops will leave you alone. This is a statewide exception for tints. But in Chicago, they can still write you the ticket, then you would have to fight the ticket with your rx doctors note. I think the city does not have to go along with the state rules and laws, and will give you a hard time if they feel like it.
I dont know about the plate thing, but this is how I got away with my tints, but for a legit reason through my doctor. Cops in Chicago hates it when you go against them in any way, well most of them have anger issues imo.

If you have a note from a doctor, you qualify for WT plates, and you should get those so local police don't even bother pulling you over for them. As far as I understand, you just need to contact the Secretary of State; I suspect going to your local DMV should point you in the right direction.
It's interesting how the Secretary of State's website doesn't have a single bit of information about WT plates on them, although their existence is common knowledge, and any forms related to medical exemptions for tint aren't available online at all, from what I can see. Sad.

By the way, CarType has quite a few updates from the last time I checked it, and they've been in contact with Rep. Bassi's office about the conflicting bills and how the next round of Senate votes go.
Yea I didnt know there was an exception for the tints if you have an rx until I was reading on the SOS website back in 04. But I did not see anything about the WT plates, what is it exactly? A sticker? Entirely diff plate and design? Do you have a link regarding the plates? It would save me tons of hassle with the cops lol, I think since I bought my car, my 03 when the evos first came out in the US, I been pulled over 100+ times because of my tints, Chicago police does not agree with the stupid state law, and always gives me a hard time, plus I have a good driving record as well.
I checked the cartype site, I think its great someone is actually following up on this issue. But I did not see any info about the license plate. However I saw this, and this is what pisses me off about CPD
UPDATE: 7-28-9. Andrea at the Illinois Capitol Office answers a very good question from one of our readers.
Question: I emailed my alderman's office, and they said that even if Illinois passes a law allowing tint, the Chicago Municipal Code will supercede that law. So tint will still be illegal with a $250 ticket in Chicago until the Municipal Code is changed (at least according to my alderman's office)."
Answer: NO that is not true. The Illinois Vehicle Code (Chapter 11 specifically) allows Chicago to adopt ordinances in regards to the movement of vehicles and rules of the road. However, tinting is not a moving ordinance but an equipment ordinance (Chapter 12 of the Illinois Vehicle Code) thus Chicago is not exempt from the law. This information came from the Illinois State Police.

It's a completely new plate, with a "WT" down the side (similar to other specialty plates). I have no link, unfortunately; like I said, it's like the Secretary of State's office has gone out of their way to NOT document it anywhere.
Your best bet is to go down to the DMV, mention that you have an eye condition relating to light sensitivity for which you carry a doctor's note (as documentation of the legality of tint applied to your vehicle), and that you wanted to inquire about "WT" plates so you stop getting pulled over about it. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
And yeah, CarType is only following the progress of the new tint law.

The bill has a footnote of "Effective Immediately", meaning as soon as the governor signs it, it's law. I just needs to get to the Governor first, which will probably be in January.
You can't see the person inside the tints car to see if THEY see YOU.
But hey... to each their own!
Hope it passes if you want it to.
