SST Questions
No, I think it is a GSR but with most of the fruit.
Has the high spoiler, driving lights, cornering lights, HID's, immobiliser/alarm and bluetooth. Plus all the mechanical options.
I did not want leather as I have had a very good experience with the black cloth. The cloth really is black - only the picture flash greys it out.
The picture of the cap is a bit of a joke. It arrived from Mitsubishi about a month after the vehicle had been delivered. Do you think if I wear it the vehicle will go faster?

I have been trying to work out how many, if any, programmes the ABS has.
It very rarely intrudes in normal / normal modes.
I use gravel mode and sport (SST) modes extensively.
The ABS then seems to allow the front wheels to "bite" more into gravel surface.
This gives a huge advantage as full steering control is maintained.
Or am I imaging it?
Surely Mitsy would not bother to provide that rally car complexity on just a GSR SST.

That would be great if that's how it is. I'm starting to think that this car will have a gigantic advantage over the IX when it comes time to modifying the handling of the X.
Out With The Eight!
Well I have finally made the decision.
I aways expected to keep the Eight for my 203 mile commute into town but the X SST is so superior being safer, quicker, quieter, more economical and a lot more fun. One of the the service staff at the dealer who has looked after it will take it - so off it goes. It goes with a few regrets after 5 years and 122,000 miles and no major problems. I just hope the X gives me the same great run.

I'd be looking for something considerably more frugal on gas.
Fuel prices will easily pass 5.00/gallon by the end of Sep.
What would you recommend?
The commute is what you would call a canyon run with lots of hills and slow speed corners. Some of it is on gravel and during the winter the tarmac is often gritted.
It takes me two and a half hours and safety is more important than economy.
But if there is a better solution than an Evo I would be interested.
Thanks.

You definitely have the right tool for your commute then.

Guys there are 3 separate maps. In fact they did the race map first and doing the other 2 maps is what delayed the car in the U.S. Also never use SS mode for normal driving. As far as it takeing longer for 3 maps, yea maybe. If it where me I would want the first map to be as fuel efficient as possible, horsepower not being the concern. Drive around town and cruise like a mercedes.
I would make the second map my highway map, mostly just like the 1st map but much better when you go to pass, a bit more torques and better gear changes, but still decent gas miliage. This is the way the made it now by the way, except the thired map.
SS mode would be what it is now race mode. I would squeeze every last ounce of performance in this mode the car can delivier without failing. I wouldn't care about the gas miliage in this mode.
And yes the car can shift better than you, just let the car do it. They had a race car driver test it and he said it shifts where he would shift.
As for a delay when you brake hard. There is no delay, you got that wrong. Whats really happening is this:
[1] This tranmision is not an automatic. It is a manual that has 2 clutches instead of one. When you shift one clutch pulls the gear your in out, and the other at the same time is pushing the next one in. This tranny is like a motor cycle transmission, you can't skip gears like on a normal manual.
[2] So when you brake hard and then stomp it heres what really happened.
EX: Your in 6th gear and you brake really hard. You don't know it but the car keeps the rite gear and is most likely down shifting multiple times while you break. Or maybe it didnt so while you are breaking its still in 6th. So you decide to stomp it again anyway. The car decides that the rite gear is now 2nd only problem is your in 6th still. Since it ca't skip any gears it has to shift 4 times to get you to 2nd. So that delay your talking about is most likely not really a delay at all but the car just shifted about 4 times real fast. Looking at it this way this should amaze you how fast it did shift.
I think this tranny will shorten the gap some in races where one guy with the 5 speed is a master shifter and your not. Since you don't have to worry about shifting this leaves you with only to focus on keeping the car in the proper line as fast as possible. This is an advantage. I myself am a master shifter, but I'll still get this car. I have a 5 speed and people ask me how do you shift so fast. I tell them this is a very smooth tranny but I am also very good at useing it.
Imagine this scenario:
Race day: You are tired but decide to race that day anyway. Sometimes when you are tired you miss a gearor select the wrong one in all the excitement. The other guy locked anto your 6 is also tired but he is driving a MR with SST. He wants around you bad but so far can't pass. You come up on a turn and miss or select the wrong gear. His car doesn't get tired and hits the rite gear and he passes you. You finish the race but never get around that car that passed you. You get 2nd place, and your transmission, and the fact your tired and his car wasn't, gives him 1st place. So thats just something to think about everyone. Sure shifting gears is fun, but sometimes as above winning is more fun, don't you think? This is one of the best SST 's ever made, your not getting screwed like you would if you bought a volkswagon with a simular tranny for instance, lol.
One more thing, the car runs extremly rich. Look at your pipes. I bet they are black as hell on the inside. Am I rite? They should be more grayed if you where useing all that fuel instead of dumping it out the pipe. This keeps the car from detonating. Fuel only explodes when its fumes, a full tank of fuel won't explode. But the fumes will. Anyway I understand why they did it but they aren't the ones paying for the fuel, reclaim your torques and H.P, lean it out some.

EDIT: i reread the original post that talks about the delay and this only happens in normal mode. that's because only in normal mode does the SST skip gears. in supersport and sport modes it will act like a true sequential and row thru all the gears. why? exactly for this reason, no delay in power.
if you're in 4th and start braking, it will preselect 3rd. step on the gas and depending on rpm it may either stay in gear or drop down to 3rd for a bit and then go back up to 4th. in normal mode, depending on how they programmed it, it may preselect a much lower gear like from 4th to 1st. when you step on the gas you really need 3rd so the tranny has to disengage 1st (the "wrong" preselected gear), engage 3rd (the "right" preselected gear cuz you all of a sudden pressed the gas again), disengage the clutch on shaft 2,4,6 and engage the clutch on shaft 1,3,5. all this for a simple downshift to the next lower gear? YES!!!
THIS IMO causes the delay in normal mode. the preselection of the next gear is all based on fuel economy and well... NORMAL driving. if you want uninterrupted power, use sport mode always.
for evidence look a this video where BM does 0-400m runs in all 3 modes.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZvSvN5ja884&feature=related
in s-sport and sport modes, even when the brake is fully depressed, the SST will row thru all the next lower gears to get to 1st. in normal mode, the gears go from 5th to 6th (an upshift on decel!!!) back to 5th then 2nd (totally skipping 4th and 3rd) then 1st.

Madfast, I agree.. I saw that while in SST mode the transmission would "downshift" as to provide engine breaking in order to keep the revs up.. So I'm not sure where he got that idea from.. Maybe daydreaming of getting out of that Mirage...
