No reason the car needs to be full of all fluids -- in particular, fuel.

And just to provide some on-topic content... I won the SM class at my San Diego autoX debut of my Evo -- out of a class of 2:
http://www.sdr-scca.com/solo2/results/scat7_fin.htm
Time was 28th fastest of the day -- compared to 9th fastest of the day in my last event in the DC region. Either I had an off day, or the drivers in San Diego are better overall, or the cars in San Diego are faster -- but most likely, all 3 of those.
Karl Asseily beat me by 2.5 seconds driving a DSP BMW 325is.
But I definitely left a lot of time out there; in addition, I had some big mental lapses, like totally neglecting to check/set tire pressures between runs...

It takes a few times to get used to the speed on the "hill" in San Diego. Not always a ton of grip either. If you can, you might try to make some of the events at CA Speedway, bigger SM class and more conventional lot. Many of the same faces you saw in SD too.
Navid, I talked to Karl Sunday, too bad he's leaving the country. He had nice things to say about you and metioned he might get a codrive when he come back to visit

I did not make it to Nationals this year, but I will be there for sure next year. My EVO should be making some pretty good power by then. Probably not as much power as the BMW that I heard ripped his suspension apart launching. Was that the Sias car?
If everything goes as planned for my next 3 regional events I should walk away with 2 regional SM titles (SVR and DRSCCA) in my first year racing. All my thanks and congratulations go out to my mentor Andy Lieber from Showcase Mitsubishi, current ESP National Champion and one heck of a nice guy!

I believe he had a spraigned ankle as well. He was limping at the banquet.
Truth be told, I had a less than stellar nationals this year. I am not one for excuses, so I will spare everyone all the details. Yes, I tore my calf muscle, but that had nothing to do with my results this year. I probably had one of my worst driving days on the first day of nationals, coning out my 2nd and 3rd runs, while being slow. Weather conditions coupled with my low car number didn't help my cause any either, but I still drove very poorly on the first day. I actually tore my right calf muscle on the first day after finishing my runs. The second day I drove much better, even though my walking skills had become greatly diminished. The short of it is that the evo is certainly capable of winning street modified. My second day times were only 3 or 4 tenths off of Thomason in street mod 2, and I didn't get everything in the car either. The car needs a much better rear diff, and needs to be trailered. I was virtually the only top running car in sm that had driven there, or still had functioning ac. (A requirement for old people like me driving 1300 miles each way.)
As for my future in the EVO in sm, I am undecided. IF I run nationals next year, it will probably be in my evo. It is a big IF at this point, as I am somewhat burnt out on autocrossing right now. Unless I have a major change of heart, this year may have been it for a while. The Evo will stay with me for sure as it is a great street car. I just took it to Lebanon Valley dragway a couple weeks ago, and ran a 12.2 at 116.5 mph with a lousy 1.9 60 foot time as I was wheel spinning on the launches. Stock tires are not great for launching by the way. So I will probably take the car out to local stuff here and there, but the travel for the national stuff is just starting to make it not fun anymore.
