TTP, are you saying you had the same symptoms as me and yours looked like that? My gearbox out of the car now and is getting shipped to TRE this week so I will find out soon enough.

The gearbox oil had a small amount of metal chunks in it.

Yeah, all gears are fine but 4th. Maybe the near 1:1 ratio that kills that gear. Very strange. 5 and 6 are tiny compared to 4.

I probably have about the same # of track miles on my car too and it's used Synchromesh for all those miles. I believe razorlab had 10 track days before he had problems w/ his tranny. So if you talked to him after his 9th track day, he probably would have said BG2 worked great.

I've drained my synchromesh several times and the fluid looked clean each time as well. I would think that Mitsu put out the factory viscosity specs for good reason though.

I'm not so sure it was the actual fluid choice that did my gearbox in. Jon@TRE seems to think the BG2 isn't a bad fluid and a good OEM replacement. I really think what did my gearbox in was the combo of heat, track miles and not changing the fluid enough.

Jon told me that if I am using the car like this, I really need to be changing all the drivetrain fluids before every event, just like I change my engine oil and bleed my brakes before every event. You better believe I will be doing that from now on.

Once any oil burns it doesn't work so well. The gearbox isn't like the motor where oil gets dirty from carbon, etc. If the oil is a darker color then when you put it in, that means its getting really hot.
