^That's some serious carnage. Do you have any idea what made it go boom?

In this picture... the head and oil pan are still bolted onto the block, hah.
I see your hole and raise you an even bigger one...

I'm thinking oil starvation for mine, but not quite sure. New build is going to include and Accusump and Buschur pan, as well as a Kiggly HLA since I was getting crazy blow-by before.

touche sir! i had a kiggly hla and a moroso/ams oil pan with baffle plate and crank scraper. i believe i spun a rod bearing and then it seized before i could get off track and blew the rod out of the block. not sure what caused the spun bearing though. motor had like 5 hours on it

Yeah I feel you. My motor had maybe 3000 street miles and 20 autocrosses.

I think the same thing happened to me. The course I was on had a lot of fast right hand sweepers, so it makes sense. Plus a course worker said they heard ticking right before, like a spun bearing.

^^ May I ask if you guys spinning bearings etc. are by chance using vented to atmosphere Oil Blow-by catch tanks, or have the PCV system otherwise vented to atmosphere combined with high boost?

Thanks golgo13 (cool name) I will be posting a lot more on YouTube this year to add to what's already there, hopefully can get some better quality footage and will include other cars etc hopefully. Tsukuba 1000 and Main track again within the next 2 weeks.

RJones that's perfect. It won't be that then.

A lot of the Aussie Evo guys vent to atmosphere (to 'fix' blowby etc...) and keep blowing engines. I try to warn them but many don't listen and even laugh, and then 'bang'.

There are a ton of track cars running VTA catch set ups...the VTA set ups on evo's aren't blowing motors. Its the oil pan design and lack of a dry sump. Get a dry sump, no more blown motors. Even if you have a kiggly an ams pan and an accusump at certain tracks with the right tires you can kiss your motor goodbye...

I am not saying a motor WILL blow. Yes I know plenty of cars seem ok. But some aren't, it depends on the set up of the engine, how much boost, lots of things. Oil pressure under load will change on most cars even very slightly with a VTA set up while on other engines it won't. Over the years I have seen more than several motors blow after fitting vented set ups (not just Mitsubishis, Toyotas are worse). Works cars never ran them.
The problems can surface in the head, but can also cause crank bearings to go as well, I have seen both scenarios happen.
A vented PCV system is not necessary on these engines and the most common reason people fit them is to bandaid fix a blowby or other similar problem. I usually just say to people that if you decide to run one for whatever reason, just make sure to closely monitor oil pressure especially at high boost and high RPM which is where the problems can happen.
It's just something to be wary of that most people don't even think about

i am using a vented catch can. custom -10AN fitting in the valve cover where the PCV valve was, and the buschr fitting on the right side of the VC, both into the same can. running 25psi on E85 through the stock evo9 turbo.

Went to Tsukuba 1000 metre course today.

The weather was not very good, 36 degrees Centigrade and 85% humidity.... but I was lapping around equal with my previous best times which were set in late Autumn last year, so I was very happy with today's result as it's a good indication that the car's set up is much better now. Balance and handling is now very predictable and easy to control.
My goal for this year is to break into the 40 second bracket on this track, which very few road cars do especially on non Semi's. With my present time at 41.5, it's a long way on such a short and tight track, but going by today's result in such bad conditions, hopefully I will be able to do it when it's around 15 degrees cooler and I also should have some hub spacers properly sorted by then which will be a huge help. I don't know but I will give it my best shot anyway.

Most of the cars out there today were beginners and pretty slow so it was hard to get clean laps, (there was even a girl lapping in a Mazda SUV lol) but I was able to get a few in each of the 4 sessions anyway.

I was able to get some great video but unfortunately the aspect ratio on my camera got bumped onto VGA setting so the final product was unfortunately not as good as it could be. I will be more careful next time
You can really see how tall the new gear lever now is as well as the short throw.
