yeah thats our shop, right now it looks like something exploded inside though. which basically the interior of the race car did explode all over the floor.

i'll snap some more pictures of the shop tonight as well as more progress pictures.

so a lot more work done tonight, but its getting close and we still have a lot more to do.

tonights accompishments:

jim finished cutting out the rear door bars, and put the doors back on.
got all the drivetrain put back together and filled up with fluids
intercooler was mounted, intercooler pipes put together
radiator was installed (had to swap with my street car because of clearance issues)
got the lightweight lug nuts put on
denvers got the seats for the most part bolted in with the belts in place, just need to mount the harness bar for the shoulder straps.
denver made an exhaust
front motor mount was modified to fit

and we got the car on the scales for the first time: 2565 lbs!!!

we haven't even tried to take weight out! this was a first pass, little effort into stripping stuff, not many light weight parts, and even gas in the tank!!!

we went over a rough estimate of stuff we can cut weight with and feel we can without a doubt hit 2650 with a full cage and safety equipment. more likely into the 25xx weight.

stuff still to do:
rivet headlight blanks to the bumper, and install bumper
get fenders still (driveline failed us ),going to use stock ones for now... a few people offered up some sets thankfully.
replace fuel line to rail, finish installing battery and UICP
fill with oil and coolant
drain tank and fill with e85
install double pumper
finish seatbelt and harness bar install
install trunk latch
alignment
tune

richard again will post up some pics from tonight hopefully. unless hes already sleeping...

edit* he beat me to it

Soo tired!
But it worth it!

I went a little artistic with the exhaust hahaha. we wanted to dump, but I figured if I could put a 90* instead of straight out the back of the down pipe dump, then it should quite things down a little bit as well as get some of the hot gases somewhat away from the car. When I built race cars in college we experienced about a 3db drop just by putting a 90* bend on the exit of the muffler...... I think it came out pretty cool looking at least.... specially considering its just temporary figured why not, have a little fun hahaha

We still have a lot of house cleaning to do on the interior... and we certainly have more weight to shed!

We are all getting pretty excited about this car!!!

ALSO I wanted to add a BIG THANK YOU to the local evo guys that have been coming out the help, especially Jim and Josh, you guys have been a big help!

The closer you get, the more you realize what still needs to be done! Best of luck with tonights activities.

What do you guys do for your double pumper (denver edition)? I had all the stuff to build my own, except bulk head fittings for the new lines. Then I decided I didn't want to deal with ruining my stock housing and bought the Full-Blown hanger. I tried to get it to work with both pumps on full time, but could not get idle fuel pressure low enough - even with drilling out the return fitting and using an aftermarket FPR. I ended up with a Hobbs switch.

Have you guys scaled a set of those 1450 injectors yet? If not be sure to check out this thread.

Most teams consisted of 4-8 builders and spent as much a 3 months building. I worked 100% by myself and had about 5 weeks, only working nights and weekends. The number of work nights where I was up until 2AM, and then got up at 5AM were far too many.

Then this guy crashed it...

But I made enough money doing it to buy all my fabricating equipment: TIG welder, saws, drills, grinders etc...

Thanks for the help!

I made my own version of the double pumper. Evo dynamics is going to sell them as soon as we get a little test time in AKA a couple of local track days
I have had it in my car for over a month now and have had no problems. I will try and get some pictures of it tonight before we throw it in the car unless kevin already did.... but just keep in mind, if I get some pictures, this one looks a little rough because it was done by hand and it is a prototype. The final version will be cut and machined rather than me making them with a band saw, hand grinder and cordless drill hahaha!

I use all the stock connectors, lines and everything, its the cleanest, simplest install I have seen for double pumpers.... I dont want to give out to many details... but Ill take some pictures and let you figure it out on your own if you want to make one The only hint I will give you is study yours fuel pump assembly very closely :-)

As for the Hobbs switch, I did some testing using the signal for the high voltage relay, that seems to work out pretty well, so Im going to try using that to power the pump via a second relay, I just dont know how consistent everything will be, when it turns on and off... I also have thought about building a little controller, or using the controller the meth kits use and have it turn on and off based on duty cycle.... then it would be tunable.... I'm just not super fond of the Hobbs Switch ....

^^^^ I wanted to try the stock high voltage signal, but didn't have time to determine the activation point. Like you said it might be totally OK, but not very adjustable. I didn't want it to kick in at low load and didn't have test time when I addressed my fuel problems. Let me know how it turns out.

The main reason I didn't finish my own double pumper was that I didn't want to miss track days while I modified my housing - if I ran into issues. Sounds like you've got a few good ideas though.

You guys keep stealing parts from your street cars

well guys, we made a valient effort! huge thanks to everyone that helped us out at the shop these last two weeks!!!!! the car was completely assembled tonight, and after an hour of chasing an electrical gremlin (missing fuse... with no diagram cause we ripped the interior out ), the car started immediately with an extremely awesome sounding engine. it ran strong for all of 3 seconds then i noticed a river of oil pouring out of the tranny sight hole. we shut her down immediately, but we knew the weekend was done. turns out either the machine shop removed the large allen plug that plugs the primary oil feed passage, or the block i got didn't have one for whatever reason. either way it was my fault for not catching it when the engine was in the stand. the tranny needs to come out to put a plug back in it

all in all today was hugely successful though. one other big issue, the o-ringed head didn't seal and all the water poured everywhere when we filled out it, so that was a 2 hour headgasket swap mid way through the day.

here are the pictures of stage 1 complete (but needing some more work to fix the oil passage plug)

Kevin beat me to it.... oh well Ill leave the post.
But as Kevin said, it was all very successful, we have made leaps and bounds on the project, and after screwing in a plug we will be ready to go!

Well Our time attack car is already starting out as the BISH she is...... In about 4 nights...long nights.... we basically took a rolling, near death beaten evo and turned it into a just about ready to race track car... at least for a shake down anyway..... First head wont seal... Orings didnt compress enough....Removed head, changed orings, solved, then at about 2am tonight.... we started out with no spark.... troubleshooting (of course starting more complicated first) turned out to be a missing fuse... easy fix.... the car fired right up... and FAIL oil pouring out of the transmission..... the machine shop apparently took out the plug on the back of the block which is for the main oil feed line.....so we learn a valuable lesson, check and double check even when you are in a rush..... 4am before the event and SHE beat us!

Kevin and Richard Im sure will be up loading pictures tomorrow some time....

FAIL!!!!

Thank you to everyone that help us with this, especially the local evo guys that came out and helped out, you guys are a big part of the reason we made it this far!!! THANKS!

They both beat me to it. That's what I get for living the furthest from the shop. Anyway, Here are the pictures of the disaster of the missing plug.

Stupid plug!

Oh well, at least the car is just about complete.

Yes, there was a bomb that went off in the shop over the past few days. That, and having pretty much no sleep all week tends to make the putting up of the tools harder to do.

A big thanks to all of the guys that stopped by over the last week to give us a hand. We couldn't have gotten this far without you.
