Official 2012 Formula One Discussion Thread
I know there were a ton of good drives today, but I think Button did a hell of a job when you take into account his starting position, and then the wheel nut issue. Just impressive focus and poise.
Then....does Schumacher really have that much built up bad karma from past racing transgressions? I really think he could have kept up with Rosberg throughout the race, but was doing a hell of a job of controlling the pace of the field in the early stint of the race without risking being overtaken in the DRS zone, and all to help Rosberg build a gap without killing his tires like the rest of the field.
China: Results
Disappointed here given Qualy result...congrats to Rosberg and Merc...seems they have licked the tire deg. problem. Now back to Sauber...Perez needs some talking to...he tried to push Kobay off track in the final throws of the race...this was wrong and his antics may have cost both of them points by using up their tires...but taking the bright side...car is fast, but strategy did not work out.

I was going to use a superlative or two, but most of you already beat me to the punch: "Wow, Holy Crap, Insane race, great race." Pretty much sums up how I feel. Has to be one of the best races that I have seen in a loooong time.
Who would have thunk that Mercedes would win a race this year and that Red Bull would struggle for 3rd and 4th? Who would have thought that Sauber and Williams would be competitive? Those last 10 laps were fast and furious. So much action happening just corner to corner that it was hard to take it all in.
My hat is off to Mercedes. They deserve the win and obviously, the other teams are now going to have to copy their system. I was sad to see what happened to Michael as it would have been great to see a one-two finish by Mercedes. McLaren was coming on strong and they definitely seem probably the most consistent in performance this year. The Saubers are what amaze me. Both Perez and Kobay have been very fesity and Perez in particular seems like the real deal. I was surprised by Vettel's qualifying time and for awhile it looked like he might be outside the top 10. His consistency paid off in a solid run though.
And, I feel that Alonso's win was a fluke last week in Malaysia. Ferrari's qualifying and general race position shows they need a lot more work to be in the top 10. I was flabbergasted to see Maldonado give it to Alonso when Alonso tried to pass him.
All in all, this is shaping up to be an epic and memorable season. 3 races and 3 different cars and drivers. We are in for a treat this year. Now, on to Bahrain and who knows what will happen there, either politically or in the race if it actually happens.

i'm going to keep this race on my DVR and watch it when ever i'm bored.
i don't think Button had the pace to keep up to Nico even if his pit stop was perfect. he only lost a few seconds in that pit stop but he did came out in bad traffic which help him up more. but I still think Nico would have ran away with it. Hamilton had some great pass.

Great Qualy & Race.
Loved the fact that the top ten cars in Q2 were covered by 0.2 seconds!
funny / sad thing was seeing a f1 oficials shocked face, after recognizing vettel was walking back & didnt make it to Q3.
i would have liked to see button fight for the lead. button was passing people rather quickly / at ease. i was actually impressed by that fact. imo, he has been weak in the head, but as of late, he has a confidence & puts it down in lap time & race pace.
nico was fast all by himself! he didnt get to use his double drs wing, only until he came up on back markers aproaching the drs zone.
kimi....wow, that was sad. my guess is, he had ~6 cars behind capable of running identical times, then his tires went completely off while the others were able to put the power down....sucks for kimi.
On to bahrain...

Yeah, that was a great race. One of the few races I can remember where at no point during the race did I feel it was predictable. Watching the battles for 2-10 was epic.
- Many props to Merc for getting on top of their tire wear issues. Too bad Schumi got screwed by the pit crew ... at least they did everything right on Rosberg's stops and finally got him his first victory.
- Looks like it was Sauber's turn to pull a Mercedes instead, as it seemed that they biased their car too much for qualifying performance and then lost it all during the race
- Vettel drove a fairly respectable race, although he only missed pulling a Kimi by about a lap or two
- Ferrari who?
Now hopefully we'll have an uneventfully eventful race to look forward to in Bahrain.

Crazy race! Utter chaos ... but thoroughly enjoyable. You really couldn't tell who was where during the entire race. What happened to Kimi on the last few laps was just insanity. Funny to see Vettel get passed on the last few laps. How fortunes have turned.
Great to see Nico win one finally and without even winning a race Hamilton is leading the drivers championship.
