Might be time to try out the Rivals or the Yokos, dunno.
I can already tell you that the Rivals are no good. It may just be the fact the car is heavy, they seem to do well on lighter cars. MINI specifically, but all STF cars as well. Last year at nats we did back to back testing with Dunflops and Rivals, the ZII was consistently faster (half a second or so on 30 second course) with a more predictable slip angle, this was on our 08 STX WRX that trophied. If I was going to buy new tires it would be either the New kooks or the AD08R's. Which...out of those two, myself will be getting the new kooks. If the ZII starspec would have came out this spring instead of Nov14 I'd likely just get those....

Anyone down in Blytheville?

Yeah, I wouldn't consider the Rivals for Lincoln but I am not doing Nats this year. IIRC Josh tested Rivals vs Z2s at Fedex (local lot) last year and found them to be close but the Rivals were a little bit faster.

This would just be a carry-over until the Z2 star specs come out.

And if Dunlop would offer any contingency...it would be great...but, I think they don't...

I was referring to the Rivals.. they have contingency & are reasonably competitive, until the zII SS is available late this year... (for 2015 season)

I did back-to-back testing on my Evo at Devens (asphalt). I found the Rivals to be faster than the ZIIs (all 4 drivers had the same results).

I also drove on the Rivals at Wilmington (smooth concrete). They were horrible.

I heard similar horror stories from everyone else on Rivals at Lincoln.

I suspect the Rivals have the edge on asphalt and ZIIs on concrete.

Where in the above would you place RS3s? Common thing that is around for Hankooks is that they better work when hot. Considring EVOs (especially X) as heavy cars and also limited size you can use for STx, I would expect them to be closer to the top.

If I have read the current Fasttrack correctly, the SEB and STAC have withdrawn the previously proposed octane limit for ST! Score!

After review of member feedback, the SEB and STAC are withdrawing the previously-published proposal to add an octane limit to 3.6.A (see December Fastrack).

Thanks, that's another excellent datapoint. Though I was hoping to do Wilmington this year Kinda sounds like I should just pick up another set of Z2's and sell them when the Z2*'s are released.

Funny, STU in Wilmington last year... top 5 were all on BFG's, top spot not on BFG's was about 4.5s back.. Luster, Shane, myself were top 3 spots... 4th was another 1.5s back. Though I agree about zIIs being the best bet @ Lincoln.

I haven't tested RS3s on my Evo. However, I know at least a couple here have run them.

I'm skeptical about them in this application mainly because of the soft sidewalls. If you can drive and set up the car around that, they have excellent lateral grip and handle heat well.

I prefer driving the Dunlops the best because they have better lateral grip than the Rivals, the turn in is crisper, and they work much better in the cold (beginning and end of season). In the middle of the season I drive on the BFGs because they're faster.

I ask because I don't remember the answer, but was anyone actually running Dunlops? I think most people (myself included, although my car was handling terribly) were on BFGs or RS3s.

I'll bring mine if you want a co-driver...

Are you planning on coming to the Jersey Tour?

-Bryan

P.S. - No, I haven't figured out how to do the multiple quotes in one post thing.
