Looking to improve handling
Looking to improve handling
Hey guys I got my evo a little over a year ago and its been great so far. I've done a few suspension mods but nothing too crazy but I feel the handling could be improved 10 fold. Its got BC coil overs on it now which I'd like to swap for KW's but thats down the road.
There is no from under tray and I'd like to get a flat under panel or at least the stock one. Which do you guys recommend. Also I've been thinking of getting some canards and maybe an APR front splitter. The high speed stability seems to be there in the rear but not the front. A lot has to do with that tray being gone. Let me know what your guys think and any first time modding suggestions.
Would be nice to get into circuit as well and I'm wanting to do it right the first time.

1. Start off by upgrading the rear lower control arm bushings
2. Add a Whiteline 24mm rear sway bar
3. Brake lines
4. Brake fluid
5. Track pads (Stop Tech pads are OK for light track duty)
Ok to hit the track

Front under tray is mostly for cooling the tranny. dont expect to get downforce from it.
What the others said
alignment 1st
rear sway adj
rear bushings ( toe and bump steer )
RCK front kit
front sway adj
Cusco sway bracket
Biggest upgrade....really sticky tires.
I use Star specs on the street 255/40/17 and they also double as the occasional track day tire, just dont expect them to be r-spec grip

How much seat time do you have now? The driver mod is always going to make you the fastest.
This is what I would do in this exact order but YMMV:
More seat time
Brakes (pads, lines and fluid - rotors are debatable)
Whiteline RCK front and rear
Bushings
Read diff plates
More seat time
Swaybars (which bars are still a source of debate)
Coilovers
More seat time
R-comp tires
More power (as your skills improve and catch up to your suspension)

Well let me list my current mods that I can think of.
Whiteline roll center adjusters
BC coilovers
NT03M 17x9.5
Dunlop Direzza Z2 255/40/17
Front lip isnt so bad either. Kind of has a little lip built into it.
Hawk HP Plus pads
Slotted and drilled rotors (looking to go slotted only)
OEM Rear Wing.
I'd like to improve from here. I will definitely be getting an alignment soon and start with the heavier mods. From what I've read the rear sway bar isnt really the problem its the spring rates. Once proper spring rates are dialed in the tension of the bar effectively can be effectively decreased.

edit: nevermind; we seem to be talking about something older than an X, given the bit about restacking the rear diff plates
Yea its an 05 8. And I'm sorry to those who said that under trays don't help to improve handling and areo. Remove an undertray from an F1 car mid turn and watch what happens. Just simply watching Voltex's older wind tunnel test videos proves that 10 fold.

You still glossed over the seat time question. Are you building a car for track days, time trials, what?
I agree with above.
I think we all need to ask him why he "thinks" the front feels unstable? Instead of telling him to just install all these random parts that he probably won't even benefit from.
More info needed on:
How? Where? Turn in? Mid corner? Exit? Straight? Speed?
Or it feels unstable driving to a local parking lot meet?

Rereading this, I note that the thread-starter has installed coilovers and a roll-center correction kit, but says that he or she "will definitely be getting an alignment soon." For all we know, the car has a boatload of (front) toe-out.
