lol sorry. But that should work really well actually, and may be easier than chopping up a tie rod and welding it on straight.

thatll be my back up plan. ive got a length of threaded rod that i was planning to use to make sure all the threads line up straight and such between tie rod and extended. i like the sleeves i ordered because they are very heavy duty, they should be here friday.

my issue right now is that one of my whiteline balljoints crumbled to pieces when the shop tried to press it so im waiting to hear back from whiteline...and i cant get the damn tie rods to slip outta the hubs.

well crap. turns out the tie rod sleeves arent fully threaded like i was told they were, they only have about 1 inch of thread on one end of the sleeve. due to being stainless and an inch thick, im not convinced that it could be welded to the tie rod but ill talk to my shop monday...not to keen on welding anyway.

the mooresport nut looks very useful, but i dont think it is long enough to do something like put it on then end of a piece of threaded rod and still have a reasonable amount of threads left to grab onto the steering rod....

back to the drawing board...

were you able to determine the thread pitch of the stock tie rods?

I'm doing my own custom rod end shank thingy, and the only female rod ends i could find were m14x2.0.

- steering rod is confirmed as m14x1.5
- tie rod to hub is confirmed m10x1.25

i had m10x1, x1.25, and x1.5 i was trying to fit and it really looked like 1.25 but for whatever reason it wouldnt thread onto my whiteline pieces. one i knew it wouldnt because i hammered on it too hard and mushroomed it. i went and got a new ball joint tool and thought my other one would be fine, but when i looked closely the new tool had ruined the top thread so nothing would start to thread on. the 1.25 then went right on when i put an oem tie rod back on the car.

im going back to my plan of sacrificing old ball joints to make the extender since i have two trashed whiteline ones now and a new kit waiting to be picked up. should have it all together by end of the week...hopefully.

**** its tough finding a female tie rod end that's m14x1.5. Finally found one with a threaded length of 36mm. This may be sufficient for an X.

How much wider is EVO X control arm when compared to VIII/IX arm?
And how much wider of a track did you end up gaining per side?

Maybe I missed it, but why aren't you running male thread ball joints and a M14 threaded sleeve? Might have to trim the steering rod but should be no big deal to knock down.

whole issue was that i cant find the correct thread tube/coupling nut etc)

I got one arm installed tonight. unfortunately my extension idea failed, as it didnt allow the tie rod to thread far enough on and i had massive toe in.

HOWEVER, i installed the tie rod without extension and was able to get the toe zero'd. when i took everything apart, my tie rods were threaded on 10 turns. i got the toe zero'd with them 5 turns on, which kind of surprised me based on pictures ive seen.

the question is just if thats enough...

not sure where to go from here...the cut off section of tie rod doesnt have a flat edge so im not sure it can be weded now (i didnt even do the cutting i had a shop do it...)

For strength, it needs to be threaded in as far as it is wide. 14mm diameter, 14mm threaded depth.

ill measure the length of engagement tomorrow. im mildly stumped on what else to try for an extension, but now i know that it certainly doesnt need much.
