evo 9 hillclimb build log
I think the current STU allowances is all I wanted for this car, esp now we know 285s would fit. I didnt know I'd learn to replace my own clutch eventually, but earlier when I got my clutch replaced I got talked to do upgrades
I think thats where the slippery slope started. I got my only FTD/TopPAX in ASP but drivetrain parts started breaking. Then when I needed my first rebuild (ringland failure) they told me short blocks are outsourced now, no factory specs builds available. (Honestly drag racer shops here dont have patience for autox needs lol). Anyway this first 2.0 build didnt last long(spun #4). And maybe its just my luck but I have never had a full season without something breaking since I left STU.
I may be wrong but I think having the best wheel/street tire combo is still the best performance adder year after year they give us the latest tire offerings. meanwhile in faster evo classes we cant stop looking into new mod$ lol
Anyway, at this point in time I think its easier to sell an STU car

STU is a fun place for these cars. The power levels are fun but still mild enough to be reliable.
The old rules requiring OEM clutches were a pain, but they fixed that. The STAC deserves a lot of credit for the various little improvements they've made to the class over the years.
Being able to run wider tires is a nice touch, too.

Lost a local hillclimber here in PA this weekend RIP
Seems freakish, we should all be so lucky rather then it being drawn out in some hospital bed for years. I see a cage, net, halo seat, etc...kinda strange when you see this and watch worse one's like Jeremy's pikes run.
I'll die in half the time if in George Floyd' predicament
We have a very famous kiwi racer here whos 82 and still actively racing at a pretty high level. He won the NZ Grand Prix twice, hes won the malaysian grand prix, selangor and penang grand prix back in the day. Pretty incredible how fast he still is. Also a huge mentor for young stars coming through and does alot of work in that space which is really cool
So cool to hear guys racing well into retirement years - gives me hope!
we have a father son combo at our hillclimb series - the SON is 65 and the dad is mid eighties. They both race their own BRZ and the dad will still get the son sometimes!

I remember someone on EvoM got their local dealership to play ball with a DIY exchange, but I doubt that's an option with the average dealership
A tip: If you don't trust your dealership, so some of the work to remove the trim pieces before you go in. My dealership broke a couple clips while doing the airbag recall. These cars are old and technicians don't get much experience with them.
