ok - yea just want to make sure it's not someting weird/bad with my setup. i guess as the tires get temps in them the fronts get overworked more and the rears fall into an ideal place as far as tire grip goes

Shouldn't be overworked, though. Maybe ease up on the trail braking I have to do that when I want to push the car hard for more than a few laps. It's slower for me, but the tires stay happy

There are a lot of things that change from cold to hot and by the nature of the Evo you arent going to get things to heat evenly. You will always go through 3 stages in just the tires. Understeer till front start working, once front is warming then oversteer till rear starts working, then get to you normal steady state.

If lap time is the most important things like time attack just ignore the warmup phase or just get through it driving 5-8/10s.But never setup your car to be better with cold tires at the sacrifice of warmed up grip.

Back to racing this weekend. So if you guys remember, they threw the evo in the supercar class. Well my supra got thrown in the sport compact class haha. I thought I was going to get put in the sports car class but guess not. So looks like I get to go up against fwd cars, miatas and frs/brz....

potential causes of a weak start-up once in a while? doesn't matter hot/cold, could have been immediately driving, and once in a while just intermittently starts up slow. not the ignition part but the actual engine getting up to idle revs.. thoughts?

Like it cranks slow, or when it fires off it kinda thumps a bit then gets going? If its the latter, I would probably jump down the IAC motor rabbit hole and see if that all checks out. If that checks out, then do the trinity of boost leak / compression / leak down tests.

Weak ground on the starter harness usually. Check the ground on the harness is secured to one of the top to trans bolts and those bolts are tight.

doesn't thump, it just kind of works its way up to idle slowly if that makes sense. Crank is good, all of that is good. Half the time it fires up as fast as ever, half the time just kinda slow..

Does it happen at any engine temp? Like first cold start, just restarted from OT, sitting for 20 minutes, an hour etc?

yea any temp - if anything, it fires up faster cold, fires up slower after it's hot/been driven - but again, pretty random.

If it was me I would start troubleshooting the IAC, seemingly random in my experience tends to skew electrical/electromechanical. You can also try and make a mental note when it happens of how long the car has been sitting since it was at operating temp. Better would be to log coolant temp before starting. Then you can flush out if it is related to a specific temp range, which means it could be tune related / fixable.

resonated test pipe is in the car! holding on to the cat in case I ever go back to a state that requires a cat. hopefully the difference in backflow won't require a retune

Going from a catalytic converter to no catalytic converter? Definitely want a retune
