Also, take into consideration the gearing of the MR and GSR on the highway. The GSR (I'm not 100% sure) turns like 3k on the tach at 80, and the MR is like 500-800 rpm less. If you do a lot of highway driving, the MR is the one to have. Some people get annoyed with the higher rpm highway speeds the GSR has, but still not a killer.
Unless Mitsubishi has improved the stock clutch on the new GSRs, you might as well bank on installing a new clutch around 15k. Its documented all over these forums that the stock clutch doesn't last long.
Coming from a previous MR owner, if I was to buy another EVO, I would buy another MR. That tranmission is re-donk-u-lous. Especially when the car is modded. Just make sure you cool that tranny properly (jdm fog light deletes, maybe an SSP cooling pan, etc.)
Just remember, generally, the more you mod something, the higher your maintenance cost will be. This will go double if you track the hell out of the car.

GSR turns 3k RPM in 5th gear at about 64 MPH. These engines are designed to rev though, I've driven to/from Minnesota at 85 MPH twice and the car was nothing short of perfect.
Stock clutches go out for two reason:
1. People don't know how to drive.
2. People treat them like they're a badass racing clutch, not an OEM clutch.
Armando's on the stock clutch with nearly 50k miles and making 355 WTQ, I'm at 25k making 375 with hopes of being 400+ within a few weeks. I have no worries about the stock clutch, but I also treat it like it should be treated and don't slip it excessively nor do I launch it. Removing the clutch restrictor pill greatly helps too since it get's ride of the built-in slip.

The GSR clutch will last you 50k miles if you know how to drive and you don't launch it every time you get in it. I had 30k on mine with multiple launches and it still had another 10-20k left on it. I wouldn't worry a bit about the stock clutch.
If you plan to drag race it then that's another story. Good luck getting 10k miles out of it.

@ Tom yeah I'm thinking about buying Mikes old GSR at Don Herring. 455hp/450 ft/lb at the wheels on e85. Risky power, but on 93 octane its 425 hp394 ft/lb on an FP Red. It's pretty much already got everything I could do to any car I get.

Don't forget that Don also has mrMTB's car as well!
Krisko, you have your choice of 2 modded X's and of each flavor (GSR and MR). Might be worth your while driving both around to see which you like better. Both owners took good care of their cars. Can't go wrong with either. Just depends on what you can afford. Good Luck dude!
