just playing devils advocate here, but the dealer can and will come up with any idea they want as to how your problem is not a warranty related issue no matter how cut and dry it sounds.

I could totally see them, not Cherry Hill specifically but any dealer, dening your warranty by saying your aftermarket bulbs, the headunit you installed or the GPS you plugged into the cigarette lighter fried the wiring harness or something stupid like that.

A while back I remember a VW dealer (North Penn Imports) telling my friend who's block cracked that his warranty was denied because of the aftermarket rims he had on the car were the cause due to the extra weight. I am being 100% serious here too. IIRC he took it all the way up the ladder to corporate VOA and they stood behind the dealers decision.

cause they know that noone smart will spend 3000 bucks + time on a civil case when the repair bill is the same. This is why I never took any chance and always reverted back to stop prior to any dealer looking at the car. Ben, I wouldn't take a chance if I were you.

I think Ben was a service writer for a dealer, so hopefully he knows all the in's and out's of the game.

My only real concern initially was my wide-band. I wasn't sure how it was powered, I was hoping that it wasn't wired anywhere near the short. I called my buddy who installed it, and I'm not overly concerned now. So far, I don't have any indications that Cherry Hill is trying to play games. The writer said that he hasn't ever seen this issue before, but it has definitely occurred. ie the Electrical Gremlins thread that was linked a few pages ago. The interesting thing is that we didn't see any moisture or corrosion underneath the dead pedal. There may be corrosion after you start disassembling the harness, but we couldn't see anything other than a nasty short.

Tim, You mentioned that you cleaned the corrosion on the harness underneath the dead pedal, did you see any water?

Marc, That VW story is unbelievable. VW is typically pretty good about warranty, I'm shocked to hear about them standing by some BS heavy wheel theory.

What do I have to lose? If they decide it's not warranty, the only thing that I could be on the hook for would maybe be one hour of diag time. Anything they have into other than that was never authorized.

Edit: I just realized that you meant taking it back to stock. The car has a Boost Gauge and a Wideband. Hopefully if they wanted to get out of the repair because of those two items, they would have already brought them up. Otherwise, it's too late.

I know the game. So far, they seem legit. My biggest fear is the Tech working on the car. You definitely don't want some butcher doing electrical repairs on your car. The lot guy that gave me a ride to Market East, said that the guy working on it is a good tech. I kind of feel sorry for him. This is not the type of warranty repair that flat rate techs dream about.

I pulled the ds kick panel off and found corrosion their, it was damp. I dont know if this was from snow on my feet or the boot leaking or what. I cleaned them up with contact cleaner and then used di-electric grease on all the connectors.

Thank Tim

I just noticed the 'Boston Pancake' tag. After googling it, I had a pretty good laugh. I find sexual acts that involve poop very amusing. and arousing

that's ridiculous. that's just as valid as telling someone that the block cracked because the owner was a fat *** or has a fat girlfriend/wife.

All this talk about corroded harnesses is making me worried... Seems these instances are pretty isolated though.

Its completely ridiculous but its how they do. Honestly, if I had a dealer, I wouldn't want to replace a block and use my techs time. Only would I do it if corporate reimbursed me to, or if a judge ordered it repaired.

I bought the extened warranty from him. Good for 1mile or 3 pulls.

An engine job may actually not be too bad for a tech. Especially is they are slow. The book would probably pay 15-25 hours, and certain techs could actually make time with a job like that. It would drive up the average warranty claim price for the dealer, but that alone isn't necessarily reason enough to run away from an engine job.
