havent done something like this since the glen at college and have been itching to get back on the track even though my engine is basically stock aside from a MBC. one you do open track, autoX just isnt "as" fun.

could really use some good learning seat time. Ill prob pm you later when I am not so slammed at work and talk to you about it. thanks for the heads up,

DO IT!

This isn't an 'open track' event in the sense that you can come and go on track as you please, its a structured HPDE. Still just as much fun though. Hope you and your pops can make it. Hit me up if you have any questions.

Please, I don't want to hear the word 'excuse' come outta your mouth... you should be signing up for this one!

Nah, Lightning is easy on brakes. Once you get the ryhthm down you only need to brake in two spots, turn 1 and turn 7.

yea thats the thing. I have the cash (finally) to go out and drive, but i need to make sure i can afford some track only pads since mine will be toast within a lap. depending on what I go with, need to talk to pete, rotors may be in order too. if thats the case then i probably wont go this time around, tho i heard that track is fun.

dan, nah MY car is slow, yours rips. and chu no excuses, play like a champion. id rather become a better driver while the car is "slow" and then upgrade as my driving gets better.

the other day i was coming into a corner hard and right at the apex my fronts, then rears, hit unexpected gravels because I didnt go wide enough (another car there), and lost all traction. i tokyo drifted that corner with the tail coming about 2 feet from the curb, downshifted to third, mashed the gas and pulled it all the way through the turn. unexpected, but super fun.

would prefer not to do that on public roads, thats why track sounds awesome.

RC6... who makes those? I'll be on Z1's and R6's throughout the weekend if that makes a difference. Never used the XP-10's with R6's before, but I know they are a little too much BITE for my Z1's. ABS is very easy to trigger with them.

what kind of tires are you on and what kind of 'track only' pads are you thinking of getting?

You don't need to spend tons of money getting ready. I just picked up a complete set of Front and Rear rotors from rock auto for less than $100 shipped for ALL 4!! You can't beat that! Pads will depend on what tire you run and your experience, but if you're already low enough that you're going to need to replace after 1 lap than its an expense you're already going to incur so you might as well bite the bullet.

If it comes down to it I have some used DS2500 pads that I carry for spares to get me home "in case". You can use them if you need to.

Marc,

I have been needing to replace the pads for a while, so this is something i just need to do anyway. I was and am still plann ing on having pete set me up with some et800s, just didnt know how heavy this course was on break, and if It would be worth my while to not destroy those and get soemthing with a better coefficient for the track. but from what you said, sounds like with some fresh pads ill be all set.

im running rotorpros on all four corners, stainless line, motul fluid. hps pads at the moment that suck. experience is very limited, but eager to learn. tires are Z1 star specs 265/40/17 on all fours. hope this helps, i need to call pete and see what I can get done soon if I decide to go. need to talk to the dad too, the more evos the better!

the DS2500's I have would work great with the Z1's on track. Like I said, the course isn't hard on brakes at all. Its hardest on the left side tires since its alot of right hand turns. With you being in the beginner group you likely won't be generating enough speed to really hammer them anyways, so you'll be fine.

Depending on how old the rotorpro's are you're probably fine there too. I'm only on my 2nd set with about a dozen track days and who knows how many AX's on this car. At the track I've never seen anyone actually run them down far enough to need replacing, its usually cracking by getting them too hot that does them in.

265/40s huh, never seen that combo before... what wheels you on?

yea wanted to get some 35 series tires but they werent available in 17s at the time (still not sure), but i wanted to see if I could get 265s to fit for a little extra grip than the 255s. im running chus old set the 17x9.5 rpf1s. im not into the Hella-Flush look, i think if your going to run wide wheels, run wide tires, so thats what I did. And the grip speaks for itself.

not enough power to get sideways unless i really want to or do something stupid. and i prefer 17s to 18s.

the rotorpros have some miles, but not nearly has many track days as you, and if they go, ill just get new ones, theyve been good to me so far.

if the ferrados handle it fine, then some et800s will be fine im sure. and like you said, since i will most likely be in the beginner group, it wont matter anyway. ive only done a few days at the glen, so not much.

is this one of the HPDEs where you can pass if you get waved on? I know I wont be the fastest, but have had annoying experiences stuck behind slow drivers where you cant pass. not saying this will happen, just curious. im getting more tempted, i think I may have to look up directions and see how far it is from both DC and Philly burbs. thanks for the info!

Marc, the RC6 Pete mentioned is the new rave from Carbone Lorraine. CL claims the "sintered" design is the new thing. FYI, CL is distributed by Essex, who is also the distributor of Ferrodo. Alot of people have been saying really good things about them. I think you should give it a try.

Having to cut fenders and all that makes it pretty HellaFlush!
