Nope, they just removed the manifold, welded the hole cleaned it out and put a phenolic spacer on. Whether that translates to any additional power, who knows. If nothing else we removed weight, potential boost leaks and made the car 100% emissions non-compliant. Everything I've read about the spacers say that the intake manifold will become noticably colder to the touch. We were originally going to plug the head, but I wasn't terribly comfortable having to worry about a potential catastrophic engine failure should that plug ever come loose. As it turned out, the shop where my friend is tuning the car has an excellent welder on staff, so welding the hole shut was a no brainer.
I have one on my car, can't say that I've ever noticed a big difference.

I'm curious to see your results with the spacer. I was going to run one when I did my HG install over the winter. I've had great results using them on other motors but i was advised against it with this one because I was told it doesn't hold up and eventually causes boost leaks.
I heard the same thing, its been on my car for almost 2 years now, and it seems to be holding fine. That being said, I've probably only put 10k on my car in that amount of time. Adam is the one who installed it, and I got it from Chu. (thanks again buddy!)

Pete, thats becasue you still have EGR and your exhaust is circulating through the mani. Ben is complete removing the system and block off the flow, so his should, in theory, run much cooler.

I understand that, I don't think it makes that big of a difference though. We should do a test at an autox event, right after a run get the thermal number off the intake mani from two of our cars, Ben's and someone else's (who is still on stock IC), and see if there is a difference.. I know Marc has one of those thermal guns we could use. You usually have it with you don't you, Marc?

with the EGR blocked off/removed I'd bet there would be a difference in IM temps. I don't usually bring my IR gun to autox's, but I can. Problem is I don't know when I'll be able to make it to another one...

So who's up for some hardparking this Sunday at the sonic meet?

I completely forgot about it. It would be nice to hang out for a little while with some beers if the weather is nice.
