I didn't see any fireballs when I was watching, just smoke screen.

I'm going to bring a knee pad for my left leg this time. Bracing myself on the door card is no fun when it starts hurting!

This.

Use the deadpedal chu, thats what its there for. I was bracing the hell out of myself with it, esp since I wasn't using the harness. My left leg felt fine afterwards, wasn't worn out at all.

Are the harnesses accepted by PCA? When I ran with NASA, they absolutely did not allow it.

BTW Mark, can you fill me in on how tech works for PCA? Is it the similar to what we go through for autox? I keep seeing emails from PCA about tech forms, and having a mechanic fill out the form and what now.

First, I only have one. Second, my instructor didn't like the looks of it at all.

As far as the tech form, just print it, fill it out (or have it filled out) and get it signed off. Then you turn it in when the "tech" your car. All they really did was look at the tires for tread, and look at the brake pads to make they still had life. Very easy..

ASM belts are accepted (atleast nobody says anything to me when I go), but they do require the same level of protection for the driver and pass. So if you only have one side that might be a problem until you're signed off to drive solo.

PCA tech is a little more strict than an autocross, especially if this is the first time they're seeing your car and even more so if you're in the beginner group.

The form should be filled out and signed by whomever inspects your car. I do my own inspections and sign the form with my name and list marc's garage as my shop. I did this the first time I ran with them and I was black flagged in the middle of my first session. when i came in they were questioning me about who tech'ed my car. I told Pete that I am the only person I trust to inspect my car becaue I'm the one doing 130 down the straight. He wasn't happy with my answer but I think he understood where i was coming from. I haven't been questions since but I'm sure if I had a mechanical issue at some point they might change their tune a little.

Who did ou have yours singed off by? Accordign to what I've read, it has to get signed by a certified mechanic. It's not a problem, just wanted to make sure so they dont turn me away!

I thought most places/clubs will not let you run a harness unless you have at least a roll bar for roll over protection. A harness will keep you upright in the seat, and if you roll over and crush the roof in you have no where to go (head/spine compression). With a normal seat belt, your upper body is able to move and not get jammed by the roof coming in. I'm not talking about pancaking the car, but how may people have more than a few inches of room between your head and the roof liner with a helmet on?

thats how it use to be, but the ASM harnesses have become accepted by *most* clubs. I agree though if you rollover you're probably screwed.

Lets just say it was taken care of.

As far as the harness goes, I only have one. Marc (my instructor) didn't seem to think too highly of it, eventhough I told him it was an ASM harness. I'm sure it would have helped, but I managed without it.

Personally, I would never use harness without a proper Roll Cage. FF roll cages don't count. Taking from my own personal experience when I offed at Beaverun I hit grass backwards and sideways. If there wasn't morning dew on grass I think I may have rolled the car.
The reason for me not doing track days is I feel that you need a cage to really be safe on track. Like Autox, ish happens and if you are really pushing it you are going to have some sort of mishap. This is just my personal opinion not fact. Having a child has changed my views from when I was a few years younger, I am much more cautious now.
