Philadelphia's Classiest Drunkards
So... I think I want to sell my Mazda and buy a Highlander Hybrid. I can't drive by a damn pump without having to stop.. $50 a week in gas is too much for the little amount of driving I do.
The only think holding me back from switching to a tire like the NT01 or R888's is the fact that I still drive on teh street and I don't want to swap tires for a track day. I love to 'arrive and drive' so to speak. with that said it seems like the toyo R888 is the 'spec' tire for the PCA, EVERY car was on either those or Hoosiers.
I suppose you 'could' run them on the street if you wanted to, heck I know guys who drive to the track with their hoosiers on, but there are drawbacks to doing so. Aside from picking up and throwing off everything you run over, the problem with driving a sticky tire like the R888 on the street is that it will heat cycle out before all the tread is gone. what you are left with is an R-comp type tire that has performance closer to a street tire.
I would double check the milage you get on the highlander hybrid. My mom has the regular highlander v6 and it gets around 18mpg. I can't see the hybrid being more than 25. If you want a hybrid get the Lexus ct200. You would be surprised how cheap they are and get 40mpg. And they look sick lol. Deff my next daily

Taking on a car payment will still cost me more than it will save me, if fuel continues to rise, it may be worth it though.
I could only imagine the pit trash talking
Its good to see Pete got his DD out there too
I think the Highlander is rated at 27city, some get as high as 29, others in the low 20's.. No new cars here brotha, wife in school, one income, yours and my idea of cheap are two totally different things.

If you could figure out your average miles driven per year and amount of savings on gas from better mileage you could figure out a #. My bet is it still is not worth getting new car for gas mileage. Cost of payment is always more than any savings on gas, by alot.. My wifes Rav 4 is about 26 mile average highway/city. 4 cylinder 4 wheel drive.
fu(kkkkkkkkkkk alright lets do it.
yeah i hear you. Hopefully when my dad gets a new car he will get the lexus. Anyone getting a new car (or new to them) should SERIOUSLY consider getting a hybrid.

The cost of getting a "Hybrid" still does not add up with whatever savings you are getting. Hybrids are sold at Premiums and usually a few thousand more than a gas engine. You cannot save enough $ over the course of owning the car.
Maybe in a few years when hybrids are more common and less expensive, but not yet.
That said check out the Volkswagon TDI's, I read some dude was getting 40 mpg. Diesel cars are no longer the smoky cackling noise machine like the diesels of old.

I think unless you keep vehicle 10 years and/or gas continues to stay ridiculous for the next few years then yes I would get a new car.

my wife and i were looking at the audi a3 tdi which is rated at 45mpg. we wanted more room and i wanted to eat organic and wear thick wire frame glasses and preach my beliefs and values to everyone that passes by me, so we got a subaru.
