Dan, like I mentioned yesterday, you have the right attitude. If you listen to your instructor and don't try and drive above your limits I'm sure you'll be fine, but accidents do happen out there. Heck, you could even be like me and get into an accident on the way to the track.

not to dwell on the subject of crashing, but the other night as I was watching my racing videos from the last HPDE I came to the realization that if, and that is a BIG IF, I were to ever crash I really won't be mad because I've gotten way more out of my car than I ever could have imagined and in the process its brought me so much joy. More so than any other car I've owned. I'd even go as far as saying its brought me more joy than all the other cars I've owned put together.

I mean, I've chased down Porsches, Z06's, M's, vipers and other exotics that some people never even get a chance to see on the road let alone share a track with. Not to mention all the stuff I've learned along the way. the car doesn't owe me a damn thing at this point but I hope I can keep it together for many more years to come.

^it is novices racing hard that caused that?

Marc, my cars still owes me a lot so I'd be devastated by crashing it.

1 thing everyone keeps reminding me is "Safety First." If it doesn't look safe, and you have to question it, don't do it. Just because you get a point by doesn't mean you have to take it. Stay aware of the situation, and don't worry about who is behind you. Look ahead, and stay aware of the flag stations.

I wasn't in the car or on track with them when the crashes happened, I just saw the aftermath, so I can't speak as to the exact cause but I will say from previous experience that its usually driver error that plays the major roll. Whether its being too aggressive, not listening to your instructor or just having too big of an ego, more times than not the driver is 100% at fault. The car only does what you tell it to do, so if you tell it the wrong inputs and lose control its your fault, not the cars. Thats exactly why you have an instructor sitting right next to you telling you what to do and what not to do.

The only other thing it could be is a mechanical failure, but your car would have to be in ****-poor shape to have a mechanial on the 2nd turn of the first lap.

I waived off multiple point by's.. No big deal as long as the poeple realize you still want by, just not at that moment.

There are (somewhat) affordable track day insurance companys, for some people the additional hundreds of dollars for a weekend on track is worth it. You set the value of your car..and pay for that weekends worth of coverage.

hey pete, wats going on. Give me a call on my cell when you get a chance, have a question about brakes.

all this talk about crashing is bad karma. just be safe, know your limits, listen to the instructor, an leave your ego at home. all will be fun

question, not sure if I heard/remember this correctly. is it true that you need the same safety equipment for the driver as the instructor? so say you have a 5 point on the drivers side, but not on the passenger. someone said that you wouldnt be able to use the harness bc the instructor doesnt have one? make sense?

Alien Visitor: Buying a black kimber TLE RL .45 with light/strobe/laser on the rail. another 5 weeks of waiting and she'll be mine....

Dan certainly has the right attitude, you must respect speed, your car limitations and your own limitations at the track. Accidents happen, I am sure everyone of them mentioned are never planned prior too. When I offed at Beaverun, it was just because I placed the car 1-2' over to far mid-corner and caught the rumble strip or whatever the hell was on the sides of track. I think I realized I was too far over and lifted to try and steer car where I wanted. The lifting while mid corner with rear tire hitting bumpy surface cause my car to snap around instantly.
I was in the car myself, had been around the track quite a few times and knew it pretty well. Beaverun is a great learning track, very few walls to hit, lots of run off room, technically an easy track so its good for beginners. I am very happy it happened there and not Pocono or something. I value my health and car too much right now to risk it. Maybe in a few years when I am at a different point in life (mid life crisis - approx 8 years away for me)

Chu, still have your Tial? I do not need partial throttle, its just all on or off, no in between

Mike, I do. But its just the valve itself. I reused the clamp for my Synapse, as well as the viton o-oring. You would need to get a flange, o-ring, and clamp. Should be around $50 for those items.

Ryan, I've heard the same from multiple sources abotu safety devices. Also, are you running a five point in your car? You still cant' use it becasue the crotch belt must be looped within the hole in the seat. As the stock Evo seat don't have the hole built in, you're still assed out!

Chuster, nah not running a 5 pt. still got the 4pt schroth camlock ASM. just using that as an example. The ASM is passable for most car clubs, but some wont let you run without a nut hugger strap, hence my example.

not looking to get fix backed seats etc while shes still the DD
