Several reasons:

1. Traffic. Driving the Schykill at 5pm is just stupid.
2. Per Diem. I get full per diem if I stay out vs. 75% if I commuted.
3. Hotel serves dinner and beer, more per diem in my pocket. I've been averaging $10/day for lunch. Coffee is free in the mornings!
4. Gas prices > mileage allowance, at this point in time. Used to be opposite.
5. Hotel Points. It's nice to have. I haven't paid to stay at any Hilton property since 2006.
6. I get to sleep in later since I don't have to drive far to get to work. A whole hour!!!!

those hotel points are going to come in pretty handy when you're traveling for those track events.

Shelf brackets might have been for a 14" shelf. Whatever looks like it will cover most of the shelf width.
