Columbus wasn't a murderer. The people he brought with him were. He was also the one that brought Hernan Cortes who stole his men and boats to go to Mexico. When they got there he burned the boats so no one could turn back. He went on to kill aztecs.

What I think is cool is that Columbus blew a ton of smoke up the king and queen of Spain saying there's tons of gold over here and he'll go get it if they promise to finance his crusade to take back jeruselum for the Christian. So he wasn't a murderer but rather an anti-Semite.

I read his diary in his language and all he wrote about were how fine and naked the native chicks were. He died in the domincan republic with a ton of illegitimate children and still hating Jews.

he wrote his diaries in spanish. they were sent back to spain frequently in order to update everyone on his progress and to get money. he was always sure to write a blurb about looking somewhere new each day because of reports of gold being "born" there. back them gold was "born"....at least in spanish it was.

i've read cortes' diaries too. they are pretty cool because he was a good writer. i read them while i was in spain. he wrote a whole description of the main square in the modern day mexico city, which was the aztec center of things. he described as being fun of people and being 3 times the size of the square in salamanca. the cool thing is that i was sitting in that square in salamanca while reading what he wrote he wrote about 500+ years ago in another part of the world.

edit: this is a good book that i read a long time ago. not quite the standpoint i was describing but one of the bigs one that come to mind. if you're interested in history it's worth the read.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...est_of_America

the description from that site sucks but some of the comments are good:

Todorov was one of the first people to portray Christopher Columbus as anything other than a genius and a hero. In The Conquest of America he comes off as a religious fanatic trying to raise money for a Crusade no one is interested, and as dead set on imposing his vision of reality on the world despite all empirical evidence (as for instance, when he lands on yet another island and insists that he has found the mainland even though the inhabitants keep saying it is an island. He makes his whole crew swear an oath that it is the mainland and that anyone who says otherwise will have their tongue cut off.) Todorov is also one of the first people to move beyond the idea that because Cortez had guns and horses he had to win, even though he was vastly outnumbered.

is racing live the one where you buy mods for your car and go out and do street jobs and street racing to earn money. it isn't an action game but one of strategy?
