one and a half more semesters for me at college... super excited to be done and have a degree.

With that being said, knowing all of you folk who have already done it, if you could keep going to school would you?

I have an opportunity to probably make about 40k a year working with my father and living at home, or i can bite the bullet and go to school for 5 more years at dental school. Anyone have any advice or suggestions???

My reasoning for dental school is
- professional career
- prestigious
- opportunity to give back and travel to other countries to help those less fortunate
- job security
- I should be able to buy a **** load of awesome cars and race every weekend

Doesn't everyone make fun of dentists? (:

I took the family business route. Finished school at nova to herald the yim empire into a new era. I just expanded my store and looking to liquidate some of the stagnant commercial property we have to get into distribution. I wonder everyday what itd be like if I went for my mba and took a professional career. But I had to weigh the pros and cons and decided to stick with the family business. I have my parents assets to play with and 26 yrs of operational experience. I definitely know I made the right choice!

Go to dental school. 40k will get boring pretty quick, especially when you want to buy a house, have kids, ect ...

Whats your degree now? In retrospect i should have stay and got a masters, if you can stay motivated do it.

40k sounds great being a recent grad, but what about benefits and long term investments (401k?)

i took the advice from my work when i graduated from college and put a HUGE contribution to my 401k.
my wife has been putting about 1200 a month just in her 401k to match mine and she's gonna take several years to get there.

My degree now will be in business management.

The family business is very interesting. My dad is a textile engineer but instead is the head tennis pro at the local country club. Im the assistant pro at the country club and i make great money for my age, at an average of 50 bucks an hour. I could go into the OTHER family business which is my dad's fathers company. He owns the largest textile manufacturer in central america, but it would mean i would have to move to Guatemala, not really my thing.

Im thinking i should just work super hard and go to dental school and have really white teeth like James said lol. Hopefully it will give me a chance to get to baller status.

My .02 FWIW would be to stay in school as long as you can and pick a career/field you LOVE. Don't go for the $ first as you will soon get tired of working for a paycheck. However if you find something you enjoy doing the money will eventually follow and it will never feel like 'work' since you enjoy it.

BTW, Orthodontist is where its at, or so I'm told. A good friend of mine whom I race with has his own practice and he is setup well. Only works 4 days a week, has several 'toys' including an Aston Martin, Porsche and a couple air planes. Not to mention he races all the damn time, lol.
