also, don't forget that snow tires are really only snow tires when they're full tread. Once you use about 1/3-1/2 they become an all season tire, or atleast thats how the blizzacks work. So along with the production date keep that in mind when buying used tires.

A) I'm being cheap. (what else is new)

B) I am looking at new tires also. Thats what I would rather due so I don't run into a situation like you described. I just don't feel like dropping $500 on tires, i would rather buy my new suspension...

you're not going to drive around this winter on your new suspension, are you? Wait till the spring to get that. Snow tires should be your priority, without them you car isn't going anywhere this winter.

anyone else notice the schedule posted on the SCCA site? Looks like we'll finally have a TOUR and PRO in our area (NJ & DE). I'm stoked!

I believe you are correct on the all-season deal Mark. But I have to disagree on the treadware. From what I've gathered, snow tires are no good once they get down to 5-6/32. The Generals I recently purchased come in at 12/32 new. I think Blizzaks are about the same.

^ isn't that what I just said... 6/32 is 1/2 of 12/32.

Pretty sure the info is on blizzacks site and may even be marked on the tire itself.

The WS series blizzaks have two types of rubber, the first half is really porous, making it work well in the snow.

I don't believe that all snow tires become all seasons at the half way point. However I can see some tread designs losing a significant amount of bite over time.

I know the blizzacks fall under that catagory, and so do the Conti Extreme Contact DWS. On the Conti's its actually built into their tread, when you can't see the S in the DWS than you know its no longer a snow tire. pretty cool if you ask me. I can't speak about other brands though.

yup. i might try to register for the pro, just to try it. I hear that registering is more difficult than buying micheal jackson tickets.

is this true?

also, the british cast doesn't say "top gear" 8000 times in a show.

Marc, finally getting the garage sorted? Nice... No, I won't be putting the suspension on until March (or as close to racing season as I can), I just want to buy the goodies I need now.

As far as snows becoming A/S tires after a certain point, I still wouldn't want to drive on them all year regardless of the car I had.

I'm unfamiliar with the whole PRO and Tour thing... anyone care to give me the cliff notes?
