it's worth a shot, but you will probably get the same run-a-round that i did.

first they told me i had a bad alignment, then they told me those tires just do that, then they said they might be able to off me a small discount on purchasing a new set of tires, then they just stopped returning my phone calls and emails.

i even went so far as to send them pictures of the tires and how they were literally peeling away from the sidewall.

that's why i will never buy so much as a wiper blade of tirerack ever again. i understand that i got tires on clearance for a pretty decent price, but when the tread starts to peel away from the sidewall in a rather gruesome manner before you have even so much as had them on an autocross, that's a manufacturing defect and should have been taken care of by someone else along the supply chain.

long story short i ended up having to eat the cost of that set of tires and treated it as a lesson learned that tirerack wasn't willing to stand behind their products, so i am not willing to give them my business.

dave has a point though man, i don't know how comfortable i would feel with one odd ball tire. i guess you don't have much choice though.

The two tires have different tread patterns. Let;s start with water evacuation in the rain. The re-01r's do a terrible job here. So you may have two different levels of traction even just driving around. The reo1r's and star specs will also have different levels of grip at a given temperature. May not be a big deal cruising down the parkway but I have seen you flying up 18th. Any racing would be out of the question.

Then there are the driveline stresses. It come right down to the transfer case and if you want to put any additional strain at all in addition to your 350whp.

How about when you get on the dragstrip and the star spec spins before the re-01's? How do you think your drivetrain will take that?
Aaaaarrrrgghhhh...damn you and your logic. You must be referring to another Evo though as I don't speed up 18th...its a 25mph speed limit .

Anyone in here ever try the Sumitomo HTRZ III? They are only 160/tire, but have pretty good dry traction ratings (8.2 vs. star specs 8.54)

anything will be better than your initial decision of going with one different tire.....get what you can afford even if its not what you would like to have now, sometimes that is how the sh*t rolls.

WHOA...the same thing happened to you with RE01-R's? You did that same ultra-cheap group buy a year ago? Now I'm getting pissed.

no they weren't re-o1r's.

this was a close out deal they had two, maybe even 3 years ago at this point (can't remember for sure) on some bfg kd t/a's.

Ok, I think I remember those BFG's.

Does anyone know of anyone that runs Toyo R1R's? I'm trying to find information on them, but there isn't alot of info on these forums. I got a shipped quote from a tire rack competitor which would be less than the cost of the Z1's, so i'm pretty intrigued.

I was going to do that actually but I'm leaving on business through Friday. It would be good to tap into the knowledge of a good suspension guy...missed opportunity.

Spent some time today with the car trying to undo the mess that the pant shop made....Scheib...you get what you pay for-what a nightmare...anyway the car is a mess, metal shaving everywhere, filthy inside, so I'm going to take the long weekend to get everything sorted out and go to the test and tune on the 1st (hopefully it doesn't get cancelled!)

I purchased that exhaust for the sole reason that it would be quieter than the rest so I could build the motor and still have a livable sounding car for trips/driving around town. Now I have people staring at me at stop lights thinking its the Indy 500.

Well, if your car is down for something else, if you don't mind we could swap for a little while just to see how I like the exhaust. I can pay for the labor to swap or whatever. You can run my ARC if you want, I don't care at this point because it is looking like I am going to sell it. Especially if your's is as quiet as you two are making it out to be. Let me know if you want to swap for a few days, I really appreciate the help.

Now I have issues with the tune I have to get worked out... urgh. When will it end?
Whatever you are up for, like I say my car is so loud that a louder exhaust won't make much of a difference at this point. Switching it out shold be pretty simple, especially if we just keep the exisitng downpipes. I'm away thru Friday but talk to Mike as I have to haul the car and trailer over to the welder off McKnight after Labor Day to have a tire rack and some addtional tie down points installed.

No toyo's! They are great for small light cars, not heavy Awd boost buggies. Soft sidewalls. Stick with the starspecs & get at least 2.

Too late. Just picked up 4 Toyo R1R's for the price of 4 Sumitomo HTRZ III's - just couldn't pass it up. I guess we'll find out just how soft those sidewalls are...

Oh god, c'mon, they can't be that bad. Most reviews I've read mention the soft sidewalls, but say that they more than make up for it with ridiculous grip. I survived with Falken FK452s for some time - those had sidewalls made of jello and gripped like a pair of Nike's on an ice rink.

Thanks for that Star Jone's imagery. I'll remember that for when I'm polishing the 'ol German helmet .

oh i have no clue about the tires, i was just curious if you had ever sat in a bean bag chair perched on top of star jone's stomach. i'm taking an informal survey of people i know.

in other news.....

i found the coolest and possibly nerdiest thing ever on the interwebz today.

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/534416

it's called super mario brothers crossover. it's the original super mario brothers game, but it lets you play as mario (obviously), link from zelda, bill r from contra, simon from castlevania, megaman from uh... megaman, and samus from metroid.

badarse. apparently soon they will be adding ryu from ninja gaiden too. can't wait for that.
