Local Pittsburgh meet part deux
You'll need several thousand dollars in parts, tools and some dedication.
That's just the motor.
It's a very good opportunity to learn some mechanical know how and rebuild a decent car. In reality you'll probably drop the motor without labeling and bagging all the parts, take a picture of yourself in the engine bay. In the end you'll be paying someone to do the work for you with half assed parts and run 12.5 with 637hp two years later.

Josh,
Dropping a motor in is "easy", assuming everything matches between donor cars. Building a motor is a whole new can of worms. Forums are great for quick tips but you need to invest in some books first, look at Barnes & Noble or whatever and start reading. If you can read through and understand them, then consider going through it yourself. A little $ and research up front will save you alot in the future, and you'll learn something too.
Supras are high dollar cars, no doubt. Getting cheap shell is a good start but good luck finding all the parts that are broken, missing, or need upgraded while staying within any budget. Once you get it together and have problems, you have very few that understand the car/setup.

Was trying to get out this past Tuesday, but they pulled the Test and Tune from the schedule
Might be out on Saturday afternoon for Flat Out, but I'm not 100% because I'm not sure I want to take the car out right away without some type of break-in.
Supposed to be a beauitful day though!!

I was over to see Mike yesterday, and now I know why you need to quiet that thing!
It is loud!
Anyway, just give RRE a call and let them know you want the JDM bumper version of the SS. Make sure you get the SS version for obvious reasons around here. The tip is just a pipe, so they can weld on a factory exhaust tip if you want it to look at little nicer.
I was talking to Mike and mentioned to him that if you were intereted we could trade exhausts as the loudness doesn't make a difference to me anymore (as I have earplugs under my helmet) but given that you need the JDM version you would have to cut down mine, plus the price differential would be too much if given that yours is an ARC Titanium.

I know! I have no idea how that is possible, either. The ARC was one of the quietest exhausts I have heard on our car's and it sounds like a drag car now. I am even running a Mil.Spec 100-cell and it has a resonator built in to it too... I am at a loss for words. I purchased that exhaust for the sole reason that it would be quieter than the rest so I could build the motor and still have a livable sounding car for trips/driving around town. Now I have people staring at me at stop lights thinking its the Indy 500.
Well, if your car is down for something else, if you don't mind we could swap for a little while just to see how I like the exhaust. I can pay for the labor to swap or whatever. You can run my ARC if you want, I don't care at this point because it is looking like I am going to sell it. Especially if your's is as quiet as you two are making it out to be. Let me know if you want to swap for a few days, I really appreciate the help.
Now I have issues with the tune I have to get worked out... urgh. When will it end?
I am sure too, and I have confidence. It is just a tease, having the car outside in the driveway and knowing its not at 100% yet... As always, your help is appreciated Travis. Let me know if you need anything from me on the car. I still need to get the XML file so I can pull some logs w/AFR and boost of my concerns on the road.
Besides, don't really need perfect tires at the drag strip and I'm not going to win any trophies in BSP Unless I'm running slicks. As long as I don't f-up my drivetrain, I don't think it will be a big deal.
well, even if I sold the other three (which would be difficult), I'd be lucky to get 100 bucks/tire. I'd still be in the hole over $700. I just don't have that kind of mullah.

I'm got a set of 235/40/18 DZ101 tires installed for $700 earlier this year.

Chew out tirerack and see if you can at least get a discount on a new set of start specs or hell some cheap matched set of hankooks would be safer.
The way you drive I don't think it would be safe at all to do that. Plus you already had one of those old bridgestones fail and got lucky. What happens when #2 fails and you aren't?

Trust me, I'd rather have a complete new set, but I just can't afford it. I don't think *****ing at tire rack is going to do anything because I never bought a warranty with the tires and the one tire failed because of a nail - not because it was defective. Besides, that particular tire was patched and it has been fine ever since. I just don't think I've got much of a case.
Dave, why don't you think it wouldn't work? Star Specs and RE01-Rs have the same treadwear rating (which I would assume would be similar compounds), they perform nearly identically in performance tests, and if the star spec is shaved down to the same tread level i just don't see how it could be that dangerous. Even the tread design is very similar.

The two tires have different tread patterns. Let;s start with water evacuation in the rain. The re-01r's do a terrible job here. So you may have two different levels of traction even just driving around. The reo1r's and star specs will also have different levels of grip at a given temperature. May not be a big deal cruising down the parkway but I have seen you flying up 18th. Any racing would be out of the question.
Then there are the driveline stresses. It come right down to the transfer case and if you want to put any additional strain at all in addition to your 350whp.
How about when you get on the dragstrip and the star spec spins before the re-01's? How do you think your drivetrain will take that?
