Thats why when you turn 21, you apply for your LTCF (License to Carry Firearm) so you can carry a conceal handgun. Too many idiots out there.

 

I think its 18.

 

You can open carry at 18, but you have to be 21 to carry concealed.

You cant get a hand gun till 21. 18 is for rifles. and then you need to be 21 to get a concealed license. Before that you really cant even carry a gun from your house to a range. Got my license a few weeks ago. Don't plan on actually carrying any time soon but I wanted it to be legal if I were to ever be pulled over on my way to the range. And a gun is never anything you want to start waving around.

you might want to look in to that, i don't think that is accurate outside of hunting.

i know you can't purchase one.

at any rate carrying it in your car in PA requires a CCW unless it is considered in "transport" mode, which generally means in a secured box, unloaded, and in your trunk.

not gonna do you much good if you gotta return fire.

 

you know the CCW is so easy and cheap to get i always tell people that they might as well.

you never know when you may want to toss your gun on your belt going in to a bad part of town.

it also works as a fun form of ID.

i used to go to a beer distributor down the road from my house. i mean, i was there a lot, and every time the guy would card me. so the one day he starts giving me crap telling me my license isn't really me. at this point i had been buying beer there for several years at least once a week from him personally. so i said "well i have another form of ID", and handed him my carry permit.

from that day forth he was a really pleasant guy and never carded me again.

in all seriousness though, it does basically function like an instant background check, and i always like to have the piece of mind that if something goes really side ways i have options.

i always say, and i mean this, that if someone is going to rob me and i can get them to go away by giving them my wallet i would gladly turn it over without drawing down on them, but if the situation ever arises where i don't think i will be able to find a peaceful resolution i want to know that i at least have a chance to protect myself.
