Local Pittsburgh meet part deux
you know the CCW is so easy and cheap to get i always tell people that they might as well.
you never know when you may want to toss your gun on your belt going in to a bad part of town.
it also works as a fun form of ID.
i used to go to a beer distributor down the road from my house. i mean, i was there a lot, and every time the guy would card me. so the one day he starts giving me crap telling me my license isn't really me. at this point i had been buying beer there for several years at least once a week from him personally. so i said "well i have another form of ID", and handed him my carry permit.
from that day forth he was a really pleasant guy and never carded me again.
in all seriousness though, it does basically function like an instant background check, and i always like to have the piece of mind that if something goes really side ways i have options.
i always say, and i mean this, that if someone is going to rob me and i can get them to go away by giving them my wallet i would gladly turn it over without drawing down on them, but if the situation ever arises where i don't think i will be able to find a peaceful resolution i want to know that i at least have a chance to protect myself.

now you have to go in, fill out your application in person, get your photo taken, then they make you wait while they do a terrorist background check on you. they send you your yellow card about a week or two later, and then you can go pick up your permit.
when i first got it i walked in to the county court house with $19 in my hand (cash only), filled out a one page questionnaire, got my picture taken, and walked out about 15 minutes later with my first ccw. thank you insta-check.
i wish they would go back to the old way, it's a pain in the *** having to make two trips downtown between the hours of 9 and 3 to get your permit, but oh well. still fairly easy and well worth it.
i think i still have 3 or 4 years left on this current one before i have to go renew it again.
Not sure if that is on a county by county basis.
First time getting my card, I had to fill out a form and wait a week.
On my 1st renewal, I walked in, got a picture taken and walked out with my new card. The women even wished me a happy birthday. haha

they made some minor changes a couple years ago to the CCW laws here. i don't know how recently you got your permit, but i've had once since i turned 21.

i <3 our state constitution for that too.
Article I, Section 21:
"The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned."
a couple other things to note, PA is a "shall issue" state. meaning if there is no compelling reason you can't get a carry permit (criminal history, etc...) they have to give it to you.
also if you're pulled over by a cop, and i believe this is still the case, you are not required to inform them that you're carrying. although, it's not a bad idea to let the officer know, that could be a potentially disastrous misunderstanding if they see it in your car without being informed.
I walked in to an Irwin police department on a day they had a remote office set up and walked out 10 minutes later with my picture permit. No 2 trips, and I went after 5:00. They only do that once a month or something I think though. You can also mail the application back in and wait about a week and they will send you one, but it's not a picture ID.
that's pretty cool, i didn't know they did that. last time i renewed my ccw was August 2008 so with any luck they did away with that goofy terrorist check & yellow card system since then.
they didn't give you any sh*t for getting a ccw without wearing pants though, did they?
Yeah there is also a state bill, HB40 that expands the castle clause(just out of committee) so you can finally just start shooting to defend your own property without consideration or any of that duty to retreat nonsense. PA is getting a little smarter there. Criminals go where it's easy pickin's. Not where they'll find Mondo, his pit bull and a hand cannon to greet them.
Haha I wish I was 21 then to carry a firearm.... guy scared the **** out of me not going to lie but oh well it happens I guess! Went to beaver run today. Flat out laps were awsome!! I did 7 laps because the instructor was nice and let me keep going! Id deff do that over drag racing! Did the 1/8 mile too and won 8 and lost to a c6 corvette with some mods deff, I could have beat her I think until the 1/8 was over bust missed 3rd.... and then lost to a new f250 that had 600awhp so I was told... he got me out of the launch, and I started cathing up but missed 3rd again... my 2 step is also weird... it goes at 5500 for a little and then moves up to 7500 with wastegate fully open on my dump
and then after that it cuts itself off.... none the less it was a blast!

nah the ccw is state based.

Hey have a favor to ask of you guys. I was involved in a hit and run accident in Monroeville on Friday, on Rt 22 westbound right by levin furniture. Some moron in a late 90's white pontiac grand-am violently swerved out of the right lane to avoid hitting the stopping car in front of him and instead hit me pushing me into a jersey barrier (he ended up clipping the guy in front of him anyway). Well he fled the scene and no one got a plate number or anything. Evo wasn't drivable, the front suspension is pretty messed up, and with the steering wheel centered the right front wheel is pointing at about the 1:00 direction. Anyway, if any of you are native to the Monroeville/Murrysville area please keep an eye out for a white grand-am with a rally red racing stripe down the driver side of his car. Thanks guys!
