Local Pittsburgh meet part deux
Question guys - on my way home from work (downtown to North Hills) the car just fell into "limp mode" i believe. Dash lit up with "Check Engine Soon" and car ran maybe 5 psi of boost and no more - I got the car to max at 50mph on 279 north. Managed to get it home, pulled off the negative battery terminal and cleared the CEL and drove car around neighborhood and its back to normal. My only engine mods are 3" intake and turbo back exhaust. I threw a code 2 weeks ago P0171 for "System too Lean", but that cleared itself out within a day and never fell into "limp mode" like it did today.
If I throw the code again and car falls into limp, I will pull the code and see whats exactly going on. I didn't think I would quite yet need a custom tune with simply an intake and exhaust. I was considering taking it up to Mike however it's late in the day and wanted to check it out myself before I ran it up to Baierl. I'm quite new to the Evo world, been a 4g63 guy for 6-7 years (dash was constantly lit on my 91 gsx).
Thanks for your time...
Brett

I was going to say that i saw your wife and 3 kids get in the car, but i figured that would have been too creepy. Its funny because me and Denny were talking a day or 2 after that and i said the same thing about being taken by surprise that a family was using the Evo as the family car it was based on

Next time, if you see the car or me, honk and say hi.
btw - you weren't one of the highschool kids were you?
Lol no problem....Hit me up with PM I'll give ya the low down.
No I didn't check it before clearing (should have). I was just worried it was something more serious so I pretty much drove at like 30mph from babcock blvd til I got home. I could've run it up to advance auto to check the code but thats another 15 mins away. I checked every vac line, coupler, hose I could think of. I have a stock bov uncrushed, no mbc, simply running stock boost on an 08 GSR.

knowing what the code was would be invaluable to diagnosing the issue. the system too lean code makes me wonder if it might be a red herring. even with an intake the stock tune on evos tend to be fairly rich. my frame of reference related directly to the 4g63 platform though, so i don't know how analogous that would be the 4b11.
how long have the mods been on your car? both of the cel's were recent...
you know it has been really f'ing hot the last couple days. sometimes my car gets temperamental during one temperature extreme or the other.

Jestr tunes are simply awesome......actually too awesome. Jestr and Mike caused me to have to add 130lbs of ballast because the car is making too much HP to stay in my TT class.
I was over at Jason's two days ago and we were trying everything we could to get the car to dyno under my target HP. We finally squeeked it in by turning the Hallman MBC 3 full turns and adjusting the dyno to read the true weight of the car (by default the Dyno has the factory weight)..with all of that, I still need all that ballast.
Torque is insane for a stock set up with very mild Cossie cams.
