These things aren't exactly reliable. Even from the factory. But it's worth it. I haven't bought anything else in going on 7 years and still don't regret it.

For just a block? On the bright side there will be a lot of other second hand parts out there if motors cost that much.

A used bare block will run around $900. That's assuming one can find a stripped block.

Doesn't that make a new short block cost on the order of what? $4000? Not even installed or anything. For cars that fetch 12-16 grand that hurts.

My 2.3 was 3570 minus the block so 4470 with block. Then you need to add in new fuel/oil pump, timing belt/tensioner, fluids, gaskets, etc. My 2.3 motor with built head was around 9k with installation.

Definitely runs like a ****. Was it worth it? The cars running again, but I could have done a lot of house stuff with 9k.

So I am thinking about a 2012 Evo and cant decide between a loaded MR and loaded GSR...I want the MR but not sure about the SST trans. Anyone have experience with a SST in this area.

Not looking to race it or anything...Just a driver...I drag race Big Block Mopars.

Also the cost difference is not an issue. (I have a Mitsubishi connection and it is almost non-existing with my pricing)

The life of a 2.0l

Well Dave hasnt said anything so I will... yes the motor with 93.000 miles on that had been pushed to the limits for two years finally let go....Its amazing with the abuse it took that it hung on this long...On to the next step....Either way he holds the 1/4 mile record currently...
