ROFL, that reminds me... at 601 miles on the odo, I pulled up to a 69/70 Chrysler muscle car with 'The Judge' painted on the sides, was like a charger type car, totally clean and cherry condition. I could see the passenger and driver pointing and laughing at my 4-door with the 747 elevator on the trunk... he revved, light turned green... I had a car length when I heard his tires barking at second gear, by him going into 3rd I had about 25 yards on him.... When I slowed down, they weren't laughing anymore...

I hate that same exact phobia driving my Evo... Everyone laughing until they race...

Unfortunately, I'm not prepared to make the financial sacrifices required to buy a new vette, so I'm looking at something a couple years older - probably 05 zo6 or 05/06 base model.

Test driving is probably the best bet...hope the dealers are open today.

Thanks for the input!
As long as its a C6 you buy and not a C5 then you're golden... Just buy a second car and buy an older S2000 or other mid-range RWD coupe. Save yourself some money, and save yourself an Evo.

And if he's not prepared to make the financial sacrifices to buy a new Vette... he's not ready for the financial sacrifices to buy a new CTS-V An '07 "new" is listed around 50k from what I can tell... I imagine the new model to be at least that, but hey, you never know. But I will agree that the CTSes, especially the V, are also hot. Unless we're lucky here and Vettes sell for cheap, you could probably find an '07 C6 for 40-45k. The '06 I found back in August was 43k before talking the dealer down at all, and it was in wonderful shape.

And good luck test driving Vettes... I dunno if it was just the dealers around here but I test drove 4 different Carreras, and 0 Vettes, "no one is allowed to test drive them"

The Caddy's don't seem to hold their price well...which is fine with me. I'll just wait for someone to dump one 6-12 months after they come out and save 10 grand or so

You can find barely used '07 CTS-V's for mid-30's already. I love American cars

I drove in a 6 speed c6 last year. The best way to describe them is FORCE. They are incredibly fast everywhere. The have tire destroying tq through third gear, maybe farther but you just cant go that fast on the street. They have crazy braking as well. The have good lateral adhesion. BUT...

And this is a BIG butt. If your used to driving imports a c6 feels like a pos. it feels out of control almost all the time. its transition speed make handling feel more like sailing than steering. take the rails off your seat and sit on the floor. That should give you an idea about visibility and general fit in the car. The front end of the car is about 8 feet long compared to a wrx/evo... its pretty, its forcefull, but fun ? hmmm only if you think smoking the tires is fun.....

Good points...didn't get the chance to test drive as the gf wanted to go drink beers, but now I'll be much more insistent on a fast drive before making a decision.

And damn...look at Caddy...I'd never really thought much about them, but that's a car you won't be able to ignore.

so my takeaway from this is that the C6's are that much better than the C5s, but they're still not much fun to drive on corners? Maybe I should just get a cheap miata and supercharge it for my drifting needs.

well, something tells me a 700hp evo might not be the most reliable car in the world either.

evos can definetely go sideways to in rain and dry road for that matter just need the right amount of power. I drove my brothers cammed corvette all summer and all i can say is wow, the way it sounds and just makes me feel nostalgic. But he spent a couple of Ks camming it and tunning it and I can still get him in the quarter with less money invested. It just cant stick. Anyways one of those will probably be my next car in around 5 years but i plan on keeping the evo. I got some vids of me getting on it a little bit in youtube just search cangriracing

Well, I went to check out a vette yesterday and I now see where those of you who are down on vettes are coming from...it was like sitting in a boat, and the shifter was something you'd expect to find on something with 18 wheels! Didn't like it at all.

Checked out a bunch of other cars - miatas, infiniti's, bmws, and more, and I ended up I falling in love with my Evo all over again. Still would like something with rear wheel drive, but there's just not much out there that's under $70k that does it for me.

Can you put something in an evo that transfers the torque more to the rear wheels than the standard settings?

Just put crappy tires in the rear I'm really surprised at the C5s too, a lot of people keep saying that the shifter sucks, the C6 shifter is amazing. The Evo is an amazing performer for sure, no surprise you came back to it.

Check around, there's a few RWD Evo conversions that shops have done, but you'd might have a better time picking up an early 90's TT Supra or TT 300zx. Even the N/A cars have enough power to walk the rear end.

I had 2 vettes in the past...both C5s however...the C6 is only better. Corvettes are great cars and needless to say they are fast and have sexy lines.

BUT

with 2 scenarios you should NOT consider..

1) If you will be financially stressed and you think you barely can make it at the end of the month.

2) If your are buying the vette as a DD. Now the vette can be driven daily no problem. Hell I did it for three years . However, I walked to work and school at the time cause I lived very close. If you are taking the vette to work or school daily you will be in pain after a while thinking about what traffic, bumps, and SALT doing to this beautiful car. This car is an inch above the ground. Its like your taking your Hot Rod to work everyday.

If you have a beater and wont be in finnacial troubles in the future, I advise you to take the C6. I think ANYONE should own a Vette if they can. You are missing a lot if you did not.

I can see a vette in my future but I wont be selling my Evo for it.

Bottom line is..If you did not try it go ahead you dont live twice. Just do it the right way.
