Trading Evo for Vette - am I crazy?
lets here a review from an expert (or an expert in my opinion)

these people are sooooo biased....Jeremy Clarkson (sp?) always mixes politics with his reviews because he knows that the average European person would love to hear how bad Americans are. Listen to their remarks " shock and awe" and " George W. Stig" . Pitiful really.
Too bad when Mr. Clarkson decided to spend his own money on a supercar he bought a Ford GT. How ironic
Well, I went to check out a vette yesterday and I now see where those of you who are down on vettes are coming from...it was like sitting in a boat, and the shifter was something you'd expect to find on something with 18 wheels! Didn't like it at all.
Checked out a bunch of other cars - miatas, infiniti's, bmws, and more, and I ended up I falling in love with my Evo all over again. Still would like something with rear wheel drive, but there's just not much out there that's under $70k that does it for me.
Can you put something in an evo that transfers the torque more to the rear wheels than the standard settings?

Japanese and german cars have a better shift feeling... I know what you mean.
heres a though! y don't u get a rx-7 FD and drop in a ls1 or any ls engine u want and go crazy and it will probably cost u less than half the price of a vette and will be 1000000 better!!! but thats just me
Vette
I went from an 06 MR (had it for 2 years) with about 400 AWHP to a 2008 LS3 Vette. I put a cam and headers on the vette and now I have 500 RWHP. The vette weighs about the same as the EVO. I have a Z51 suspension with Bilstein sport shocks added, and a RobiSpec alignment (thank Robi!). The EVO was a great car, and sometimes I miss it a little. The Vette has better quality (I call BS on previous posters, the interior is pretty damn nice). You need to test drive this car to have the right to chime in on this thread. The V8 torque is wicked, and with the cam, the car pulls like crazy. The car also does not hit an aerodynamic wall at 80 MPH like the Evo does, it just goes faster and faster. The 08 shifter is awesome (it is not as light as an EVO shifter, but very positive shifts). The Vette is just plain beautiful to look at. I wish I could afford both.... actually I can, but I choose to save and invest money every month as well. BTW- My insurance went way down when I got the vette. The Vette is more comfortable as well. The 2008 has a dual mode exhaust option, and it is wicked when the mufflers go into bypass mode (esp. with my headers). My car sounds like an absolute beast. They are both great cars, but after owning both, the Vette wins hands down. Of course it's not fair since the Vette Costs about 10K more, so I guess without considering money, the Vette wins. They are my 2 favority sub 50K cars.
The '08 Corvette steers/drives like a very large car. Very un-Evo like.
The one thing that REALLY bothered me though, was the creaking/popping removeable roof. On rough, weather beaten roads you will notice this as you will the slight frame flex when transitioning from the road onto a steep driveway. A lot of popping and creaking going on in that roof area reminds you.
The Vette does look cool but there's always the practical side of it and there's only room for driver and passenger.
In most cases, insurance is cheaper on the Vette and it will achieve 28 mpg on the highway.
You can purchase a new '08 Covette Coupe with no extras for $39500 + TTL.

ZERO Chassis flex. Occasionally a little creak from the roof, but that is usually due to it needing a little silicone. The Vette has higher cornering limits than the EVO, but it does handle differently. The Z51 corners flater than the base suspension.
They are both awesome cars, it would be nice to have both.

I owned three vettes previous to my Evo.
One 96 LT4
One 01 Zo6
and one 02 Zo6
I can say with out a doubt the vette is superior in almost every way.
I drove all my vettes and my Evo on the track, a lot.
I'd say the only place the Evo was better (on track) was in the braking department.
As for daily driving, all my vettes were more comfortable. Better ride. Less road noise. Better gearing for highway cruising. No turbo lag, and lots of low end torque.
The build quality I'd say is no better for either one.
As Corvettes have improved tons since the C4 generation.
Dont get me wrong. I loved my Evo. I was an awsome car and very fun to drive.
Go drive a Vette (or several) to get a feel for yourself. Also go visit the Corvette Forum. You can get more info there than anywhere else.
Keep in mind all my impressions are stock for stock.

What I think's funny is the thread starter already stated he went and test drove a vette and ended up taking his Evo back home, but most Corvette owners are the same, "Corvettes are the shizz, and nothing can tell me different!" Yes, GM cars have crap interior, check out any European car at even half the MSRP and there is a huge difference in finish levels. Even a $16k VW's glove box door will close with zero gaps between panels. Interior ABS plastic is textured with a rubberized coating giving it a nice look and feel to it. Even as far back as 1983 certian models came factory with Recaro seats, instruments are done with VDO gauges, etc. There's a much higher overall quality to it that any Chevy/Ford driver can not deny.
The tread's gone off the deep end as far as off topic goes, and IMO the Evo's interior is cheap as well, but the seats are damn nice!!

IMHO totally different beasts. It's something you sort of have to test drive and make a conscious decision on the differences you'll be taking on when you change cars.
I really wouldn't mind having a new LS3 vette though...

To be fair, I was in a 2003, so maybe I should go check out a newer one. I don't know, just the feel of soooooo much hood in front of me...didn't like that at all...combined with the shifter...it was a deal breaker...the C6 looks like you might not have as much trouble with the hood...it looks lower and the driver higher...would have to sit in it...and the shifter, according to some on here is much better, so I guess I've got another field trip coming up...

.
I love it. I can't believe I've never seen that video.
