Trading Evo for Vette - am I crazy?
I just assumed it was used. An '08 can still be used. I found plenty of '07s that were used when I was looking. Be prepared for the Evo sales market... Its worse than the US economy. I got trade-in estimates from 13k all the way up to 20k for my '03 w/ 52k miles on it back in the summer. And don't forget the tax savings you get for trading in (assuming your state gives the tax savings).
I think the private market for Evos has picked up a lot though, so hopefully you can sell it soon. Now get out there and ***** on threads so you can raise your post count to 50!

Ha, you've forgotten about Oregon's lack of a sales tax my friend, we can buy and sell cars with total immunity from the greedy *** govt.
I know you can find 08's used, but good luck finding even an 07 below 40k, that's why I wanted to move quick.

non USDM on the left vs USDM on the right
metallic bov vs plastic
full adjustable ralliart coilovers vs bilsteins
ralliart suspension catalog (sways, front strut bars etc. etc.) offered as options vs nothing
SAYC vs non-SAYC
Real deal ACD vs Different ACD comp or software (ACD talks to SAYC so when its not there they had to make a change to the software or the hardware or both)
Front Intercooler sprayer vs "sorry no sprayer since you got ACD now damnit"
Retuned ECU vs stock rich ECU
nothing vs emission devices that take up the space for SAYC
And so on.
Lights, semi functional rear diffuser, mirror options and other bits and pieces (seats, cup holders, climate control etc. etc. etc.) I will give you but not the main differences above. I don't count those as trim. If anything the USDM MR is a GSR with a flashy badge (opps those are different to
) just about anywhere else in the world. For the RS elsewhere in the world its not just a Evo for those on a budget. Its a full on race car that you are expected to carry into competition. That is why it doesn't come with rims (steel wheels) nor disc brakes since both of those you are going to toss and put on whatever setup you are going to run for that class.
Nor does it come with the 3 gauges since those would get tossed as well. It is also doesn't just get lighter, but has a whole bunch of extra chassis bracing (see more than just the rear trunk bar). And then theres the agressive ECU tune to boot.
Its also fully FIA Group A/N homologated and here is the kicker:
Ability to select between 6 speed and 5 speed boxes. 6 speed being standard in most markets but 5 speed as an option.
Once again not sure if I count all of that as trim. But our definitions of trim may vary

Note this is just what I remember off my head...if I really start to go and dig up the stuff there are probably other differences I am not putting here
.EvoM was messing with me tonight for some odd reason
.In the meantime here are several questions for you to chew over:
1) Why is it that despite the 6 speed box being standard for the GSR, MR, RS in several places other than the US its only on the US forums where there has been so much noise about the weakness/heating issues of the 6 speed box?
2) Why is it that its only on the same US based forums that you hear of people swapping the 6 speed box for a 5 speed box?
3) Why is it that despite their being LHD evos with 6 speed boxes elsewhere in the world it is only the USDM 6 speed box that has clearance issues with certain downpipes?
4) Why would the RS (which is built for competition as noted above) elsewhere in the world use the 6 speed box as the standard box? Seems to me that you if you knew (and they would know) that the 5 speed box was stronger you would have that as standard no?
5) Why would Ralliart UK who knows the car inside and out use a "weaker" 6 speed box in their FQ series? Shouldn't they have used the 5 speed box since they of all people would know its better?
6) Why is it that the same 6 speed box elsewhere in the world goes out gets beaten all over the countryside/rough track and can take the abuse and the ones here can't?
Outside this country those boxes are built to the same strength. It then comes down to application. If you need the finer ratios, such as for road racing you go with the 6 speed. If not you go with the 5 speed.

Either way, the FQ-320 vs a USDM Evo isn't as much of a difference as this thread's making it sound. 34 bhp +/- (ASSUMING that USDM Evo's 286bhp claim is accurate in the first place) and AYC for the most part. Get rid of your bumpers and safety glass and there's your weight difference, and 2 air bags? that part I'm not really sure about, it wouldn't suprize me if they had air bags in Europe now... And probably side impact beams. Add all those parts together and at best you're looking at 150 lbs of additional weight in the USDM models... For the most part, if you're going to cry over 150 lbs, put the cheese burger down. The chassis are definately not stamped out of different gauge materials. The Evo's in the videos, and that was just above the Corvette are FACTORY PRODUCED MODELS, AND ARE CONSIDERED PRODUCTION CARS TO THE REST OF THE ENTIRE WORLD EXCEPT MAYBE 2 PEOPLE THAT HAVE READ THIS THREAD. end of story.
The point is stock for stock a USDM evo wouldn't have been able to put up the time on the video. You can make anything fast once you start modifying it...at least thats what the honda kids believe
. The OP is talking about what he can buy today in this country stock and comparing it to another car also stock in the same country. You come from GTi land...with some money you can make one of those eat a stock Evo around a track but somehow your still here on this forum today
And AYC makes a big difference in non straight lines. Your underestimating one of the key features of the car that has made it so loved outside of this country and which you guys got robbed with until the X.
I would say don't write off the importance of AYC until you've been driven/driven an VIII with AYC. Remember all this crying on this forum about understeer in the stock evo? Ever go outside this country to evo forums from elsewhere and that crying isn't as loud? Read the US review on the new X with AYC and read what they said there about what it does in the corners? Right....
If you haven't seen it already search around for Best Motoring International Volume 7: "The Evo Strikes back." Watch the "Puma Lancer vs ADVAN Rally car" section where they talk about AYC and compare driving with AYC on against with it off.

I would keep your evo. But if your an American muscle car lover then get the vette. Think about it how many 4 cycl that american have mad that are fast. Think about it add 20g more to your car and you will be faster then then vett and cost less then a z06.
to the OP sorry for taking this off tangent. atlvalet and I are doing PMs for now. I will create a new post once I find the source I am looking for. Thought it was evoM but it must be one of the international evo forums I frequent from time to time

I know where you can get a new C6 for 38k. They won't always sell them for that, but if you are persistent and willing to wait a bit you can get em for that price. I know people who have bought them for that much. It's the most base model.
I'm all ears, that's 2k less than the cheapest I could find...where?
I posted a few months ago about what it would take to add the AYC to a USDM Evo in the advanced powertrain section and I got almost 0 response. Looking at that Evo X the weekend before last, it looked like a diff and a hydrolic pump/CPU module located in the passenger side rear bumper corner. It just amazes me that people have these $100k Evos and have never tried adding AYC. They say the EGR/Evap stuff is in the way, but I've never looked. And EGR is only a bad thing when it comes to performance. I wouldn't loose any sleep removing it, but then I'd imagine a JDM ECU would be required.
. So you'd have to chuck that too
.We call it "hero mode" at home cause thats what it feels like. You tell the car where to go and AYC (within reason) helps you get there.
well J-spec Evo dont use S-AYC on Time attack or racing cars.. they rid of S-AYC.. like PUMA evo... Rally would easier to use S-AYC..
also if u want S-AYC on..... u need Drive shaft, S-YAC, S-AYC ecu or compu, Smaller Fuel tank diffrent than USDM Evo beacsue Syac can fit in with Euro/j-spec evo not USDM evo fuel tank..
