Ideas?

Hey guys....

Been wanting to black out my tail lights for a while now. I have a TB 8, will eventually be getting black wheels. I have a can of VHT but i am a total wuss and am too worried that i will either do em too dark, or it will be weird.

I used the VHT on my side markers the other day... easiest thing I have ever done, and it came out good.

I bought
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

and it was total crap, I knew it would be, but hell 15 bucks worth the gamble.

So now I am thinking about getting
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-06...Q5fAccessories

and just painting those, keeping my stockers for if i ever wanna change back, or for fix it tickets.

I just sprayed the sidemarkers, and figured I would do the same to the tails, take em inside and spray the outside.

thoughts?

Just get a used set of US 8 tails. They are everywhere in the marketplace and you can score a set for $80 to $100. I personally would scuff the lights with a yellow scotch brite, use clear coat with a hint of black tinted in and spray it 2 to 3 coats. It just comes out super clean and shiny. But I understand most people just don't have access to those things.

Yeah i have heard about wet sanding... i dont have access to that tool or the knowledge of how to use it. The sidemarkers came out nice and shiny without roughing em up. perhaps ill give it a try though.

You don't even need to wetsand. You can just use fine scuffing to give the tint something to stick to. Make sure the surface is clean and go for it. Otherwise, it may come off over time due to the elements.

Supposedly it gives you better color/tint control. I honestly have no personal experience though.

EDIT: If you want the best possible look, take it to BelKirk, and see what they can do. They quoted me a very reasonable price to do the tail light tinting, and I'd bet it would look better.

I personally wouldn't buy JDM VIII MR knock-offs and tint them. Like someone else said, get VIII USDMs for super cheap - I have literally given a set away in the past.
