Upgrades voiding warranties??
HMMM interesting---other Mitsu owners had had voided warranties for simple air intakes---examples are all over the Evo board--- If the dealer decides to void your warranty---sure you can take them to court and you might win--after you spend at least a couple of G's and months in and out of court. .Even have seen dealers that support mods hold out on vendors cars that were modded even with know defects in transmission parts for the cvt and the cars at the dealer for months.
If your worried about a warranty---don't mod the car.

>>> Before you remove/re-install anything.. I do suggest you have the error codes pulled. That way you'll know what's the problem(s) the on-board computer is registering.
It will be very useful to you as reference. Just in case the dealer tells you something completely different or Nothing at all - (by saying "we didn't find anything wrong..." yada yada speech.)

For Haven07 - (regional problem?? with cold air intakes?)
One other member of our forum (in Chicago?) has similar intake AND has experienced some bogging/lost of power due to cold(er) weather, not sure if you're in the same situation for the past 2 months... leading up to your CEL issues.
Possible??

The CEL came on after we started warming up up here, so im not sure if it has to do with the climate.
I have a cheap OBD II Bluetooth adapter and the Torque app for my phone. The fault code came back P0171 - Powertrain System too Lean (Bank 1). Googling brings up O2 sensor, MAF sensor, intake leak?
Thoughts from those more mechanically inclined than I am?

1. intake FILTER element, either it's damaged or (loose) allowing too much dust to get through and contaminating the MAF sensor..
Use CRC's MAF cleaner and CAREFULLY clean the MAF (read its usage & instructions)
Of course, you'll need to clean and/or replace the filter element also to prevent further problems.
2. Intake tube or it's coupler(s) are loose or ripped/torn allowing more air in than optimal. Replace or re-tighten as necessary.
If all else fails, then reinstall your original OEM intake system.
Bet that will get everything back to ship shape.

P0171 errors are very common to vacuum/air-metering issues in the BMW world so, I'd say you should focus on:

So I bought some CRC MAF cleaner and cleaned the MAF thoroughly, and made sure all the tubes are tightened securely. The filter was brand new before installation a couple months ago, and I have not cleaned it yet, but no tubing or anything appears to be damaged. If this corrects the issue, how long before I see the CEL go off, or does it have to be cleared manually?
Otherwise, I'm not sure how long Mitsu's CEL stays on after error(s) are corrected.
BMW clear cycles after 5-10 minutes, so that's a reference for you.
