My first 4g63 build
so I have a question about the balance shafts. is it worth it to go with the Ams kit or should I just leave the stock boys in.
I'm kind of on a budget so if I can save some money there I will but I definitely don't want to skip out on anything on this build so any input would be appreciated. thanks!

Ya know I have wondered that myself over the years. I can see where the AMS ones have there use, but the other kits you can get from everywhere else have done the job over the years for a long time. Just make sure that you monitor your oil pressure if you do the stubby ones not the AMS ones being it goes up a ton. My talon will bury the 130 psi guage I have before 3k rpms and thats not good. So in order to fix that there is a pressure relief valve in the oil filter housing you can port out a little bit to fix that. With the evo I am not sure but I'll be pretty sure its the same kinda thing that happens.
Well its not a matter of tearing it back down it would be just the oil filter housing. I mean a simple guage install to check it for a while is no big deal but with that much pressure your gonna start hurting things in the motor and I'm sure you don't want that. Now with the AMS kit I am not sure what to expect. I was looking into those as well when I decide to build, but I am not sure how they affect pressure. If I had to guess I would say it would keep the pressure pretty close to stock being there is more to them then just a stubby shaft and it looks to be you do not turn the bearing 180 degrees to block off that passage. I could be wrong, but maybe someone who has them in their motor can chime in.

But i do have gauges already set up in the car so i'll be monitoring everything very closely.
With the process I have seen I think you will be ok. After looking at the AMS balance shafts again I think they will be just like stock. They come with new bearings and what nots which would lead me to believe they go in just like stock and everything spins like it should and the oil port doesn't get covered up. I would like to see the install instructions to verify that but I think you would be ok.

The rest of the parts are being shipped right now so should arrive while the block's in the machine shop.
When I get everything back and check it all over and over and over again, the assembly will begin.
Looks like i'm selling my firebird to fund this build

Right now i'm lookin at about a month or so. Once the fluidampr gets to the house the rotating assembly is going out to be balanced.

got some parts back from Wicked Powdercoating today! Everything came out really nice, they did a great job with awesome pricing.
I'm thinking about getting some green takata harnesses with a green harness bar and powdercoating my rims candy lime green. Well see how it all comes together.
