Everything stalled because in order to take my EVO X to its final EVOLUTION it needs to have the block replaced and trans upgraded. In order to make that happen I needed a DAILY DRIVER... Yes my EVO X has been my track toy, fun toy, and daily driver since new in '12.
For the daily grind I picked up an EV6 WIND-AWD with Tech Pack....
VERY interested in your story with the EV6, those suckers legit look like the future. Tell us all the things!
I had no idea that it came with and was capable of the following.... probably because my sales person SUCKED....
1.) interior 110v outlet good for 16amps
2.) exterior adapter 110v outlet good for 15a
3.) the car PARKS ITSELF... hands/feet off... you can choose to have it nose in or back in or parallel park.. whatever. You press a button and it scans using the cameras (and maybe radar) for a spot the car can fit. It then can park with you IN or OUT of the car. Yes, Out of the car.
4.) now I did know this, but I have to say it because it is one reason I bought it... 10% to 80% charge (which is +217miles) is done in EIGHTEEN MINUTES... yes 18 minutes... of course you have to be at a charger capable of that but the car has an 800v system that can handle it. I believe only the Porsche is that fast. Luckily there are two right by my home (8min away) that I can go to and slam it with juice and then hit the highway if need be.
5.) The app on the phone is decent. I have a schedule to charge at night (at 11pm electricity drops to .09 cents per kwh), and a schedule to have the cabin ready when I leave my home or work.. That's right. You don't go into a SAUNA at the end of the day, but rather 72F. Perfect.
6.) 10yr 100kmi warranty on the POWERTRAIN so that's the BATTERY and MOTORS... NO ONE ELSE HAS THAT.
7.) Highway autopilot is as good as Tesla. I need more time on country roads to compare those two. To be continued.
8.) Like the Tardis, it is larger on the inside.
The bad:
1.) No glass roof like Tesla so rear seat feels a bit dark cave-ish.
2.) Until Telsa opens it up, you cannot use Tesla Supercharger stations. This is open in Europe in some countries right now, we shall see what happens in the future.
3.) Braking from 95mph the braking system seemed to panic and simulated hydroplaning on dry pavement. Not cool.
4.) If you use the phone to manually tell the car to get cabin ready - like today when asking for the check at lunch (and it was 93F outside).... When you start the car the dash is now in CELSIUS... you have to go to settings, general, units - F to put it back.... obviously, a software bug.
5.) KIA doesn't carry the respect it should. My first KIA was a 2012 Sportage EX AWD. My wife drove it for 10yr/100kmi (the warranty exactly), and in that time I spent $140 on parts. That's it. Just oil changes and filters, nothing else. Last year we traded if for a Sorrento Hybrid and so far have not had a single issue and get 37mpg with 3 row seating.
Let me know what else you want to know about it....
Just saw a thing Hyundai is coming out with ev pick up. I want a work van so figure if trucks van gotta be soon. Yes, I'm aware in EU there's an ev Transit Connect, je suis Canadien!
Good summary and keep us in the loop on how ya like long term life with it.
Back to EVO X things....
I didn't have time to get the big turbo and ARTEC manifold in. But I did have time to develop and install a custom design and additively manufactured intake system and am currently tuning it. I designed this for the Garrett GTX3076R Gen2 inlet which is 4".
It isn't ENTIRELY 4" all the way through, but rather smoothly moves to a 39% larger cross section than the AEM maf tube unit.
It SOUNDS ridiculous. It is made of polypropylene carbon fiber.
Did two 3rd gear pulls today after tuning up the new intake. Amazing how repeatable this method of street tuning can actually be. This is on E85, so I see the richness and lowered the offending MAP area to bring it closer to the target of 11.8. The problem is that this is the SAME timing and slightly MORE boost than when this made 450hp. Boost leak check will commence tomorrow. New(ish) plugs. New coils, 1650FIC injectors are only seeing around 62%.. but this is all to get things sorted for the next level. Crossing fingers for a simple leak.
Did a boost leak test and my BOV was outgassing like a SOB out one of the inlet ports. I look up the manual and I was supposed to have BOTH connected!? How long has that been wrong? So I connected it as shown below. Then pressurized the system, and pinched off the line to the BOV and then CUT IT... this was to simulate a throttle closure and sure enough the BOV rapid dumped into the turbo inlet.
Went for a run... and now CLOSER to 450hp to the wheels, but not quite there!
Jaraxle, I have been running an older style Synapse DV with A+B hooked up to boost/vacuum for years and it has been working quite well.
It is interesting that in the video it calls that out as the least responsive?
