OP: is there another of those OEM shortblocks avail? Back when I bought mine, I was told it was the last one in the states (most likely sales tactic, though I had already paid). And I definitely paid more than what you were quoted.
Very interested, if you don't mind.
You didn't want to take the head off to see what happen first. Also i agree with the built 2.0l Might as well built it now for the peace of mind down the road.
I am going to take the both of you up on that offer!!! It's amazing to have great friends like @SoSoEVO and @Lumpy Sticks. I will be sure to pay you both accordingly and be on the lookout for the group chat lol to set this party up!
No problem man! Not looking to get paid but I would be interested in your old block if its still salvageable...
I've had 4 different cylinder heads done at head games. Mine was there twice, 1st time for the full work up, 2nd time was refresh and add orings to the deck. Top notch every time.
I would suggest getting the pocket port R package. Flow improvements to the head with Ferrea valves and porting the bowls, and chamber work to help reduce knock tendencies.
If you haven't paid for the short block yet I would HIGHLY suggest a built 2.0L.. All this money spent to still be stuck with a stock short block and ~400wtq limit is like a kick in the dick IMO. And English racing "street" 2.0L is $3,760.
I am so glad that you brought up the port R package as I was debating between that and the regular "4g Pocket port." My goal as of right now is to a simple OEM rebuild for now and keep my old block as a spare that will be the "race engine." With that in mind do you think the Pocket Port R is still the best way to go and wouldn't be overkill? Also would you recommend the Ferrea valves over GSC? It seems like all of Head Games packages come with the Ferrea 6000 series valves. I was just curious how it worked out for you.
I agree with the power limitations no doubt! But being that I am pretty much getting the repair completely covered, I don't mind being limited to that torque. I really just want to drive my car gain.

Funny thing is that I brought this up with Larry from mitsubishipartsnow.com because I heard the same thing! He told be that was a bunch of bologna although there was a point where the short blocks were completely on back order and that caused a scare to a lot of the dealers he supplied blocks to.
From what I remember correctly he did say that he would be able to get more as Mitsibishi waits until they get a certain number of orders before they start sending them out. If you want give my buddy Larry a call at 850-354-8253 and tell him that Jeremy from CA recommended you. Or, you can check out the website here: https://www.mitsubishipartsnow.com/o...block-1000b075. 850-354-8253850-354-8

After the results of the leak down test I was pretty comfortable with the idea of the block being done. Of course it probably would have been better for me to take the head off first to truly inspect the damage, but all the signs pointed to the rings being done. Lets just hope that is the case when @Lumpy Sticks , @SoSoEVO and I remove the head to be sent out, otherwise I will be one unhappy camper!
If you don't mind me asking, have you had any experience with building a 2.0l? If so, what shop did you send it to and how did you like it?

At least let me pay for your gas and buy you food and beers if anything! lol I actually am planning on keeping the old block though just to have as a spare and piece together little by little!

I bought mine about two years ago, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume I bought mine during that time. They already had my money, so I also assume they wouldn't have felt the need to dramatize the whole thing, but who knows LOL.
I'll hit your guy up. At that price, I wouldn't mind storing a back up. I think I paid about $3500 for mine. Worth the peace of mind, but I like your price MUCH more.
FWIW I have torque limited to 375 or so. It's no slouch.
I had OG Buschur build the block 5 years ago. I have been happy with it but if I did it now I would call Boostin or English.
For you, I would talk to Roni built. I could name a few other shops but I'm not sure if you want to ship a block across the country.
For your head, most porting should be fine. One less thing that you will have to get done when the block is being built. As you won't get huge gains you will get some gains and make more power when and if you go big power down the road.
As for the valves you asked about Head games is one of the bigger names in the game. The works i have seen from them is top of the line. If they say Ferrea valves then they will work just fine. GSC has built a name in the Evo world but lots of other company's make just as good parts.

The pocket port R is the same as the base pocket port except they add in the chamber work for a better burn and to reduce knock tendencies, it is definitely worth it.
Ferrea and GSC are both quality valves. You won't have an issue either way, so I would just go with what Dave likes to use, which clearly thats Ferrea.

Appreciate the feedback; you brought up a great point about that valves and the name recognition behind GSC. Head games work is top notch which matters the most. Have you heard good reviews from the new Buschur racing? If OG Buschur Racing were still around I would have no doubt in shipping my block over to them.

Agreed and am officially sold on the R port. Better to do it now and be ready for down the line.

Send the motor to English Racing if you want one built.
Being in quarantine really makes time fly by! I can't believe that we are in October already but at least I am making process in the Evo build! As mentioned earlier I decided to order all of my parts from mitsubishipartsnow.com as they had the lowest prices compared to anyone else and Larry whom I spoke to on the phone was an excellent person to deal with. The first part I ordered was my brand new short block. After 4 weeks of waiting the block finally arrived but my heart dropped when UPS opened their truck to show me my package...
As you can see in the pictures above, the box that the block was packed in got completely destroyed. I was furious to see that there was no foam or wood of any sort to keep the structure of the box. I recorded video of the package still on truck in the event there was any serious damage and would require me to file a claim of some sort. Thankfully, open initial inspection the block does not seem to be damaged in any way but we won't know for sure until assembly time. After several calls with Larry he expressed his deepest apologies and explained that it was UPS who damaged the package. They simply shipped the block as they received it from Japan which of course was handle with extreme delicacy. He also gave me an additional discount for my future order of parts, promised it would not happen again, and gave his word that if there are any issues with the short block he would cover it under warranty and send a replacement.
Fast forward two weeks after this incident and I ordered the remaining OEM parts I needed for my rebuild. See pics below for everything I have! . As promised, the packaging of these items were BEAUTIFUL! And everything was complete and neatly packaged. I am beyond happy with the service from mitsubishipartsnow.
I also forgot to post this but I bought this beauty a few months ago for a killer deal from Offer Up. I also ended up selling that brand new ACT HDSS Clutch Kit that was going to go on this car.
Overall, I would say that I am about 70% of the way there to getting my Evo running again! I still need to get all fluids, get machine work and head package done, Kiggly HLA, ACT Monoloc collar, throw out bearing, and any other misc. items. This will all hopefully get ordered before the end of the month with a target date of December to have the car running.
