Kyoo's Crash & Rebuild Thread
continued thanks for all the input - i'll try to get stuff off the car on sunday; i'll take pics of what i'm looking at as far as why i can't get the hood off on sunday also
and again, reason for going stock body is to compete in near-stock level classes. otherwise, i might - but i've also been down the throw everything on the car and it's not a fun route either imo

A roller is not stupid if you're just building a track car. There is surprising little you need to retain to make a car a track rat. You'll spend more time taking **** out than putting stuff in. They key is just getting a good clean/rust free shell. Anything else that would be a critical component you can get easily thanks to Facebook and the guys who seem to buy wrecked evos and disassemble them to sell their parts.
I'm not pulling my opinions out of my ***. I own an Evo with a repaired frame, and I've played this game before. If I could do it again I would gladly have gone the roller route. I would even pay someone else to do it if I couldn't. I've been careful to couch my advice with "depending on the cars condition" since nobody even knows what that is.

I'm not contesting your opinion. My opinion and letsgetthisdone's opinion is that a roller is a stupid idea for this person. He works full time, goes to school on weekends and has self proclaimed that mechanics is not his strong suit. Based on that, my opinion is that it's a horrible idea to get a roller and transfer everything.
It can be done. And you dont have to be a magical mechanic either. Its just bolts and torque specs. No secret sauce mechanical skills needed. And the sense of accomplishment, and labor money saved for more go fast parts make it worth it. At least in my case.
I'm sorry to see this happened to you man.
A few things...
1. I bought a WW IX (GSR) sight unseen a good while back. It had previously had quarter panel damage. It drove down the road sideways. I hate owning previously wrecked cars, and it's long gone.
2. I bought a few very low mileage IX's with blown motors over the years. I also have seen minty low mileage shells for sale in the past. I talked to a guy on FB a week or two ago who is parting out a very low mileage and fully built Evo for someone that is getting divorced. That shell I imagine will be sold after all parts are removed.
3. I had another point but the thought escapes me right meow.
Overall, it is your car and your money. If it was me though, I'd take what I want off the car and sell the rest of it as-is to someone who doesn't mind having a wrecked car, and then find another one to use. I'd also go for one that wasn't super nice if it's just a track toy. Save the extra expense for other stuff.

I just kinda through 10k out there earlier as an "I can't imagine it could be more then 10k" I'm SURE you could find something cheaper. It was like a worst case scenario kind of number just for comparison.
so if i'm seeing the main repair bill right now as ~7,600 + headlights, the main concern is that it will balloon up greater than that? or that the chassis won't be good or something after the repair. someone mentioned they can make stronger pre-repair, what do they do for that? spot welding?

What do you guys think the limit should be? I mean considering the car is going to be worth X after being repaired at what point does it just make sense for him to wash his hands. Take what ever money he can get for it as is and just buy another evo/car.
Thanks for clarifying.
