I was wondering more so if there is a description for why you lose the points. In the past week I have lost about 100 points, I was just looking for a particular reason. As far as I know I haven't done anything wrong. Do the mods deduct the points, or is it setup to automatically withdraw?

Hi,

The moderators do not adjust the points as they are recalculated on a regular basis. Thanks.

Bob

You lose points if someone else posts after you, really?!?! So basically I MUST have the final word to win (I broke up with a girl once cuz of this same nonsense).
And another thing: some guy I just noticed has 320 posts, 1 confirmed sale, 0.2% (as in .0002) daily activity...guess what level 40
I spend half my work day on here, over 1300 posts, 6 sales, 40% daily activity, and some how I FELL down to level 28???
If didn't look so much like a video game I won't give two.....
EDIT: oh look daily activity JUST fell to 26%, sorry I must have gotten busy for 20 mins Worst algorithm ever

I figured out what that whole losing points for someone posting after you is about. It's an award that you get every time you have the "last word" in a topic. Maybe keep the award and make it so you don't actually get the award until after a certain time of you having the "last word". Like a month after the thread has died you get the award. This way you can keep the "last word" award and people can still get points for having the "last word" but it won't give and take on a minute by minute/hour by hour/day by day basis. Just a suggestion.

Thank you for your comments! I hope to see revisions to the logic this week.

The points system logic seems a bit flawed. For example I made this post yesterday and lost 10 points:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-pls-help.html

I made this post and lost 17 points:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ification.html

I made this post and lost 10 points:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ock-block.html

I have many other examples of where I lost points for posting and I have no idea why the points were taken away.

At this pace I will slowly be working my waty back to zero points. In my opionion the system is much too complicated, with too many variables that can't be explained to posters.

I wonder how many points I will lose for posting this!

Hi!

Thank you for the feedback. You can see what the distribution of points are for your account. Follow the 'Experience' link in the black header bar above then 'Earn Points'. Keep in mind that your points will go up and down on an hourly basis. However, over time (days, weeks, months, years) they will grow.

Bob..
What's the purpose of taking points away when someone makes a post that doesn't break any rules? Are there any clear guidelines explaining exactly which types of posts will result in points being taken away? You say that over time points will grow, but if you lose more points than you gain by making posts that may not be the case.

Did you follow the link I suggested and did it answer some of your questions? That does provide some specifics on post types and the weighting factors.

im not going to lie to you, i had no idea what the points and rating system were until i read this thread. still dont get it all, and dont really care too. apparently there are some bugs, points go up and down, and it seems like Bob is at least listening to the feedback and making adjustments as possible. this is a welcomed change from a lot of people and orgs elsewhere.

it seems that this will be used to support or supplement the post count. i would assume the biggest reason for this is to better understand a member, especially in regards to making purchases etc.

i really think this should have no effect. if you are a contributing member, you are a contributing member regardless of what some algorithm regurgitates out to you.

go off personal references, how long you have been a member, previous posts, responsiveness to PMs, honesty, professionalism etc. common sense stuff. this should have no bearing. that being said, I wouldnt be upset if it went away completely, but i dont care all that much.

Hi and thank you for your comments. Two primary end goals (I realize we are not there yet) are to encourage positive contributions to our community and have fun. We realize it is not for everyone and hope it will be transparent to those folks. We will continue to fine tune it as we all gain more experience with 'Experience'. Thanks.

Yes, I saw the information on post types and weighting factors, but I didn't see any explanation as to why points are taken away when someone makes a post that doesn't break any rules. Is there anyone who understands this system? For instance can anyone look at the specific examples that I gave and determine why points were taken away?

P.S. - evidently cival discussions are discouraged because I lost 9 points for making this post !

Hi again!

You're asking for an explanation of why your particular posts resulted in a point loss and the answer is we can't review each post. There is a good chance the posts you referenced had nothing to do with the point drop. There isn't a log for each member's individual post and the accounting of points on a timeline. We are looking at the patterns being reported overall. Let's take a look at your point accumulation over one week. If we see an anomaly we will try to fix it. Thanks.

I hope you are not looking for an explanation, because it's obvious that they don't have one!
