I agree with the counterproductivity of permanent bans. OTOH, I'm sorry to see the moderators getting so much grief. I can see how they could get very tired of trying to put out fires when someone goes around setting more of them or fanning and adding fuel to others. Picking bits of truth from the ashes of flame fests is akin to forensic science. All you can fined is how the crime was commited and who the perps were......

Hear hear, this is priceless advise to anybody wanting to make a point or debate a subject "you never "win" an argument, a point made at someone else's expense is never worth the enemy created". Also, any help you think you are giving might be totally negated by the tone of the message. Keep it civil and you wont get put in TO.

From what I've read, MP5 is very helpful and informative to many members. He's quick to start with Al though. Why not just prohibit him from posting in the Dynoflash forum?

Nothing personal against MP5 or anyone else, but most of the "help and information" that MP5 dispensed was in helping his friends flame others and digging up dirt on ppl to help with the flames. I don't agree with banning him but I don't like to see him portrayed as some benevolent, kind, dispenser of knowledge and wisdom. That's disingenuous at best and flat out manipulative and deceitful at worst.

I didn't know I did all those things in one sentence. Well, I dont' know if that emotional response was soley directed towards me. That wasn't my intention, and I was just suggesting a resolution.

Actually, you did not do all that in one sentence... You wrote 3 sentences Sorry if I came across harshly. You did nothing of the sort and I should not have quoted you, I apologize for that. I was responding to a fairly large number of posts in like tone by ppl who should know better

i don't think anyone doubted that for a second. he is a great guy and a great person to know. However, we have to draw the line somewhere. how come you are still here Eric even though you also love Shiv you are not exactly Al "fan"? the reason is because you know when not to push and you also know how to debate in a way that is not flaming. like i said before, MP5 wasn't banned in a day. he had over 20 warnings and he was timed out more times than anybody else (except ryan of course). the problem is that you are letting your emotions and the love for the guy cloud your judgment where we as mods have to look at the big pics and do what ever we can to protect this board.

gt40 - the best advice i can give you is to not post on stuff you know nothing about. the subject is over and i am sorry if you don't like the way it was resolved. i think that we did a pretty good job at solving that issue and money had NOTHING to do with it. if money was the issue than Al wouldn't have been banned in the first place....

before i go back to work, quick question for all of you who say that the mods are not fair:

Was it really too much to ask MP5 not to post in the dynoflash forum? that is the only thing we asked him to do and he kept on doing it. i promised him that i will take care of the forum and make sure that Al doesn't start anything. i did that and i delted many posts before anybody even saw them and warned Al. now we as mods kept our end of the deal, what about the other side? are we supposed to let people do what ever they want just because they have 1500+ posts and they know their stuff?

No I'm not blind with love expect for my wife thank you very much.
And do you really thing I'm stupied enough to have my judgment clouded by what a great guy MP5 is. I assure you I'm not that dumb. And the only reason I have never bin timed out is because I know how to work the system and repect everyone in it.

Don't insult my Intelligence. And if you wanted to Protect this board you should have acted on another matter.

bro, i think you totally misunderstood my post. i was using you as a positive example of how you can be knowledgable, disagree and yet be respectful to other people and to the system. i have known you for almost 3 years now and i know that you don't agree with Al but you deal with it in a more diplomatic way which i really do respect. like i said before, the difference between you and David is the way you deal with stuff. he chose to argue and start problems while you try not to even get into it unless it is really too much.

again, i am sorry if you misunderstood me or if i wasn't clear on my point. i do respect you and i would never do anything to offend you or any other member of this board,

How do you know me for 3 years? I have no clue who you are.

I did not mis understand your post. Again I'm stupied?

And to my understanding the Post was started by a Vendor to degrade another Vendor. MP5 put a little funny spin on it. BAM GONE. Lighten up he has bin very well behaved.

Hi Everyone,

It is a damn shame as MP5 is probably one of the smartest people on these boards. I agree with the ban and it has nothing to do with increasing moderator work load. It was MP5’s disregard for other members as he would have easily won the prestige’s “involved in the most trashed threads this century” award. Most members saw only the tip of the ice berg.

If MP5 was such a national treasure for evolutionm.net then shame on all of you. You knew he had been banned before and was continually being warned. What kept you from PM’ing him with a caution to “tone it down” or “that was a bit insulting to that member” or “you’re dominating a thread”? I did. The best internet forums I visit require little moderator intervention. He could and did provide exceptional technical answers to members’ questions followed by a drive by shooting of a thread. Many of you sat back and watched him expertly rip a thread apart comfy in the knowledge that it was the moderator’s problem. We fixed it in the only manner left available to us.

Speedlimit...
