Talking My results from the track lastnight

Well I ran at the track last night and my first pass was a 13.76 @ 101 mph

my next 2 passes I missed gears and ran 14.1 14.2 around 99mph (is anyone else having trouble with the 1st to 2nd shift when u are shifting quick? Any grinding?) It almost seems like the trans and motor are not matching speeds quick enough and it is a small delay...so I find I have to shift slowly)

My last pass I stuck and did a 13.57 @ 102.38mph, 1.87 60ft time .63 R/T.

I ran a turbo bmw m3 and beat him badly! he ran a 14.2 @ 102.21, 2.27 60 ft, .968 r/t

Nice man.

How did you handle your launch? High rev and pop? Or did you bleed the clutch slowly??? etc?

I'm guessing the car's stock, but wouldn't hurt to ask, any mods?

I found the clutch absolutly sux azz!!!!!!!!!! So u cant rev high to build boost up...I waited till the first yello dropped and punched the gas to approx 6,000 and did a medium speed pop at the same time...not fast though, because it will bog...if u rev too much ur clutch will slip so wait till the absolute last second to rev it up.

I forgot to mention the best part of the night.... I overheard this kid in and SRT-4 neon talking trash in the distance like how he can smoke an evo and how he ran a 13.6. He ran before me and i found out from someone that had talked to him that he cranked his boost way up (no bigger injectors from what it sounds like) and he broke down ....he may have blown his motor! lol .... He was down at the end of the track w/ the hood up off to the side w/ his buddy's truck trying to tow it. LoL I love it! I didnt see what his actual time was, but regardless to blow ur motor up to try to hang w/ an evo is funny!

Tom

p.s. Did I mention I am an avid Neon hater

Obviously that guy didn't know what he is doing.

Heck, stock Evo VIIIs and stock SRT-4s trap the same in the 1/4 mile. There's obviously enough to "hang" with an Evo from a roll. Now from a stop, nothing boost mods alone can't fix.

Regardless, great runs RIDE1 . Keep up the good work .

Ride one good times on a stock Evo with stock clutch. Also don't discount the SRT-4s drag racing potential. The EVO 9 will probably go to that 2.4 power plant in the future.Basically that car has a Mitsu 2.4 with a 16g from what a friend of mine told me that has one.Car can put down crazy horsepower on minimal mods and it is a lot lighter then the EVO. Evos main advantage is AWD launch when drag racing. Road racing the Evo will own it along with many other high performance cars.So watch out for boosted SRT-4s at the drag strip if your driving a stock EVO. They will try to prove that they made the right investment (bang for the buck)and talk **** about how their car is way better then an EVO.STI's and Evos are going to be cars that people want to beat at the track by lesser imports & others. Just like we like taking out Vettes and Cobras.Just my opinion.

I can agree w/ that...but one thing....it is still a neon, and he was broken down i rest my case

also I think I should have been able to run a 13 flat w/ a 102 mph...my 60' was good, so it must have been my shifting. I still cant shift the thing fast because it feels like the engine and trans arent at matched speeds, and they will grind if I shift too fast...I think instead of taking my foot completly off the gas in shifts I should try to match the revs w/ only taking my foot 3/4 off the gas. That might get the 13.00 flat out of it.

Dont feel bad, but i was watching a best MotoRing video, and the Japanese driver was complaining that the Evo VII "could not keep up with his lightning fast shifts" Mind you that this is a J-spec Evo with a 6 speed tranny. I am guessing that you have a very valid point. On the other hand, some of us might not be able to notice it, or will adjust our driving style.

By the way, I will be picking up an Apex evo tomorrow. i wanted Blew By You (Bad), but that dealership was so stuck on their markup that they lost the deal. I guess they feel that someone else will buy for that price. the funny thing is that they tried to slip a 3999 markup into tehe deal without saying anything. When i went there the first time they told me 1500 over sticker, and this time around I was able to get them down to 2000 above sticker from 3999. They said that because Blue was a rare color they could not let the car go for less.

I wonder just how many Vettes and Cobras the EVOs are taking out? I also wonder how much difference 1200 ft or elevation makes on the 1/4 et's & trap speeds... I realize the driver makes ahuge difference, but my experience in Georgia is that the EVO is no threat to tuned DSM Eclipses or Hybrid Civics, let alone the fast Mustangs, Camaros or Vettes. No way my stock EVO is gonna hang w/ the fast V8's the best I was able to get was 14.286 @ 97.19 mph (I did miss 1-2 shift )... That's another thing, the tranny/clutch of the EVO sucks badly. I like my car, but I'm disapointed with the 1/4 mile times...
