Camp Lejeune/Jacksonville Evos (NEW)
your evo ?
remember that stop leak will be flowing thru your turbo as well...
what i did and apparently bobby has done as well and they both worked amazingly enough...
i picked up JB weld, cleaned the hell out of the area that was leaking. Put some JB weld on the area... pushed it into the fin area. Let it sit over night, put the radiator in the next day, filled her up and she has be solid ever since. That may save you some cash on the radiator. You cant see the jb weld either.

Thanks for the tip. I pulled radiator on Sunday, saw a few other wear spots that would have been holes any day. Did the repair, watched daughter's gymnastic show, remounted fan, and reinstalled radiator. So far so good.

Hey what can I say, I'm loyal to my tuner. Personally I don't really give a **** about what their dyno tells me my cars making as long as the dyno I was tuned on still says I'm making good numbers I'm happy.
I do have a question though. Do you think I can rev my engine higher safely?? I'm limiting it to 7k now, but I was reading of others with similar setups revving higher. It won't rev as high as a built 2.0, but 7k kind of sucks with such short gears. I'm already planning on having the tranny rebuilt and going with the 4.11 final drive.

Yes. dont get in the habit of doing it tho and dont miss gears.
So a couple people should know that I've been helping my friend (who returned from Okinawa after 3 years Saturday) tear apart his STi (the engine blew up on the way to Raleigh to go get him).
Took about a day, which isn't too bad considering this is the first Subaru that I've had to take apart to this extreme level. We kind of figured we were in for a bad surprise when the compression came back 120-120-120-0. Coolant was of course in freaking everything, but we didn't see any tell-tale signs of crazy damage.....
That is until the oil pan came off:

So yeah that's where we're at now. Snapped rod and wrecked block. Hoping the head is still salvageable.
The next problem: my buddy contacted the guy who sold him the car and the guy told him that Epic built and tuned this STi. So if anyone at Epic can chime in for me to say whether this is true or not that would be great. We're trying to piece together how exactly it could have happened. It was being driven from Havelocke to Raleigh by a 60 year old man. And it was set at 70mph on cruise control when it blew.

Hmm do this Dan as I cannot speak for anyone who works FOR EPIC and does the subie stuff. I would suggest he call Robbie and give him the previous owners info he should have it on file. I honestly dont really know any of the subie guys getting work up there but i do know that looks like a stock oil pickup which are bad for cracking and causing oil starvation and that is a BIG BIG problem on them. I know that they use some aftermarket fabbed ones to keep this from happening. I can check into it if you like if you can give me the original customers info but really the best thing to be done is to have him call Robbie and talk to him as he would have been the one to build it i believe. LMK if i can help buddy

Much appreciated man!
The main problem is my buddy was all excited about getting work done over at Epic, but seeing something like this makes it a little harder for him to trust future work at the same establishment. Which is completely understandable.
Not saying it's directly anyone at Epic's fault. Not at all. But you have to understand how excited my friend was in coming home and getting to drive his car. And he spent his first couple days home tearing apart the car he never even got to drive. The only place this car was driven to since purchase was church and it definitely wasn't beaten on.
I'll try to get in contact with Robbie (if my buddy hasn't already) and see what he says. If you can relay info I know the car came from VA. I'll try to get the previous owners information and any other relevant info in the mean time. I already tracked down a local 2.5 shortblock. It's knocking so they are selling for a cheap price. But at least the block is whole...unlike this one. Trying to get this all situated soon so that he can have his car back....and I don't have a car sitting in my garage that doesn't move for forever.
ok i know where you both are coming from that does suck man. I will do what I can to help just have him or you lmk and ill do whatever i can to help..
You could always tell him to have it get "Missing" and just get an evo lol

I broke the build into phases.
Phase I: Intercooler and speed density (and maybe half radiator and a/c delete)
Phase II: Half radiator and a/c delete, if I don't get it done during Phase I
Phase III: Turbo kit install, BR TBE and BR double pumper
All that is to just get the damn turbo kit installed. Then I can move on the the BR fab'd intake mani and ss lines and such.
I foresee myself buying the intercooler and the speed density in the very near future. Probably next paycheck. I already have an a/c delete kit.
I was very surprised when you told me you spool about 4,700 with the 1.06 a/r. With stock compression. I bet that thing has ridiculous top end compared to the .82.

Damn, I don't keep up with the local thread very often. The FF HTA is in the works.

Yeah we saw the stock rods. He purchased the car with the stock rods and I believe upgraded pistons. I guess we will see what happens. Not sure what decision he's going to make on what he wants to do at this point.
I'd like to dyno and log my car in the heat and see how it does.
