Well... it is down for mandatory work. The clutch literally BROKE... found out that my "NEW" clutch installed by that guy in Orlando may not have been new after all...
...water under the bridge. He took me for a fool, but slowly all his work is being replaced with precision and purpose.
I am so happy to have discovered BOLD Performance and definitely recommend them to everyone!

Sorry to hear about the discrepancy brother and I hope that it was in fact due to something mechanical or maybe compromised material being at fault and NOT due to a dishonest technician. I know I wouldn’t want that kind of karma looking for me. But +1 on Bold. Mark is good peeps. Hope you’re back up and running soon Boss.
My wife's Evo got a lot of stares today! It felt pretty good to be there in that Rally Red Evo 8.5!
Not a bad turn out! Over 700 tickets sold... I was number 94, so I was there for a LONG time! LOL
Good Luck to those that compete tomorrow!

I hope you all have fun with all these multiple meets without me. My car is only down for a little while longer... then I will be out there again soon!!!

It sounds like a normal lifespan for a spirited driving style in an Evo. I have a lot of experience with my own clutches from single discs to twins and they last anywhere from a few months to 40k or so depending on the user and the clutch type.
The organic "stock-like" disc is the longest lasting at a cost of shift quality. The cerametallic discs shift better and are lighter however they don't last as long or but hold more tq. The EXEDY and quartermaster twins use cerametallic unsprung discs and their lifespans are about 2-2.5 years as I have had all three. Yours sounds par for the course.
I have helped out a number of locals as well as inspected my own parts before and after install and use. There is no way to look at a dirty clutch 2-3 years later taken out of a transmission case covered in clutch dust and claim that someone put in a used unit several years back, nor would a used clutch last 2-3 years.
I guess I am missing something or you had unrealistic expectations for how long an aftermarket clutch should last..
I remember reading a post about a silver Evo 7 getting a clutch put in back in January 2011 on a performance blog from an Orlando shop and yours is the only one I know of in FL. That was about two and a half years ago. How long do you think a new performance clutch is supposed to last? What model was it? What disc material?

I would normally accept this explanation and move on, except the guy that did my install is the ONLY guy that has made my Sh*t list. If you knew me, you would know that I am fair and understanding. I don't have anyone that I hate because everyone deserves a fair shot. However, this guy (which I will never burn by name, but wouldn't be surprised if he was reading this RIGHT NOW), has a LONG history of doing this exact thing.
My Evo 7 has less than 30K miles on that clutch. I have never tracked the car. It stayed undriven a lot due to unemployment (let's agree that its not CHEAP fueling an Evo without income).
Secondly, everything that "this guy" put in my car has been removed and replaced due to bad choice in parts. I am NOT going to elaborate on this one. Lets just say that the fitment of his install was questionable, at best.
Thirdly, he removed things from my car (without my permission) and waited until I discovered them missing before telling me that he through them away. It was through threat of lawsuit that he quickly changed his words from "I through them away" to "they are still here in the shop."
Fourthly, he called me a liar for stating that my Evo 7 had over 300 HP in Germany when he "tuned" it to have 226HP. He was supposed to be the BEST, but made my Evo SLOWER than it ever was before I started investing in it.
There are far too many exploits to place on here. For fear of moderation, I will not continue. This guy was banned from this site many times and this thread was closed even mentioning him.
I am not the only person to get used or questionable parts by "this guy" that passed them off as new.
He took advantage of the fact that I was not knowledgeable on mechanics. I was ready to sink my wallet into his shop because my most trusted friend had his Evo done there. However, he lost my trust and business.... and the sad thing is, he didn't even care. I was just another newb to him.
My current performance shop has treated me with the respect that all newbs only dream of getting. My Evo has regained its strength and I couldn't be happier.
I don't expect a lot out of anything. However, even by your math, my clutch should have lasted a little longer.
I hope you understand that I am not beefing with you. I am just trying to explain what appeared to be an attack on my ignorance. If that was not the case, then I humbly apologize.
Lol...*sniff* *sniff*...I smell a troll....hmmm you said clutches go bad in a few months? Lol u need to re search Google kid. Maybe your clutches go bad Cuz u prob ride the **** out of them and don't know how to drive stick. Lol go troll somewhere else. I've had mine replace 7 months ago and its still doing good.

You're saying you threatened legal action because of a plastic undertray? I find it hard to believe an attorney would take a case over a $30 undertray. In the first hour of counsel, you could have bought 10 used undertrays.

Different dyno's display HP and TQ differently which is why in the program VirtualDyno, there are selections for how you want to display the power/tq and on which "dyno brand scale" you would like it to display.
How do you define "slower"? Reading lower HP on a different dyno in a different country on a different date or year? Or in quartermile track times and trap speeds? How did you trap speeds at the track differ before and after your old and new setups?

It bothers me though when I read XYZABC installed QWERTY intercooler pipes a few years ago and I popped an IC pipe on the highway today, leaving me stranded. The shop that fixed it "awesome racing INC", said that the clamps looked like they were used and that I didn't get new clamps when the IC pipes were put on years ago and the member starts posting it online as fact and how their install caused the upper ic pipe to pop off the coupler 2-3 years later.
Luckily for me, I am in medical sales which has its own quirks, but I couldn't imagine what these shops/customers have to go through on a daily basis dealing with the badmouthing that goes on, legitimate or not.
I have been around a long time and seen a lot of it in the Tampa area with the "Brotherz", "ARD", BVP tampa, SpeedClinic, XtremeB and on and on. There are some clear rip off artists out there, but then there are other shops that sound more like they didn't make the customer feel valued and feelings got hurt and thats a lot different.
If you want to PM me the details or pics I-4 Alex, I can rattle some trees in central fl and see what I can find out for you or at least offer my opinion of what I can see from the pics of your parts based on my experience with my last three Evos and 8-9 years on this site.
Josh
at least both of you are being mature about the way your speaking about the situation. Hope you get your evo back on the road soon Alex. I know that not being able to drive mine is starting to bother me lol
IMO since this happened to Alex no one can say what did or didn't happen except him or the shop. He is actually doing the shop a favor by not mentioning their name. I like this site because their is a lot of useful information but there are also people on here that if it didn't happen to them or wasn't accomplished by one of the shops with the bigger names it didn't happen. U want to look over pics so u can validate it and if u say it happened then it did yet the shop of his choice is not capable of doing that same exact thinh? Perfect example of what I'm talking about. Since when shouldn't a clutch last 2 years. How do u know how often he was driving? I've never had a clutch go out on me in a few months and honestly if it did I'd be pretty pissed
