Gentlemen, lets be patient here. Vishnu knows that it's in its best interest to support as many of us as possible. Remember that it's only speculation that multiple widebands could be supported. Don't make any presumptions that this is easy to do. I'm willing to bet that it would likely require _firmware_ changes as well as xmap modifications. Firmware coding on a high reliability, realtime device (xede) is not easy.

So instead of me tuning 10 cars/day for 2-3 days in a row, I would like to tune fewer and use the time left over to conduct a tuning clinic/demonstration for those who want to learn how to tune. We'll try this format out in Socal and see how it works.

How does everyone feel about this?
Maybe you aren't so bad after-all, Shiv.

You should see my PM box full of messages asking me about my signature. There is huge interest in stuff like this, but most people don't know where to start. 90% of tuning is being comfortable with the changes you are making. You just have to jump in, start slow and learn as much as you can along the way. Nothing to it but to do it. At the very least, sessions like this would help people get comfortable with the idea! But I suspect it will do much more. Kudos.

Hey Shiv,
Hans said that he told you to do this a long time ago, so he insists you name this the "Han's Tune".

Tell Hans we have a better name for it

Self-Monitored Active Realtime Tuning

or

SMART, for short.

Actually, I propose you call it Special High Intensity Tuning, or S.H.I.T. for short. I figure you guys give your customers more S.H.I.T. than anyone else.

Al's customers are still in the Developmental Engineering Equipment Program (DEEPSH!T) and if they don't like it are forced to undergo the Enhanced Attitude Training (EATSH!T).

Since Shiv, Dave, Dustin and Co. are already proficient in ****, they don't have to do **** anymore as they are full of **** already.

If you are full of ****, you may be interested in a job training others. We can add your name to our Basic Understanding Lecture List (BULLSH!T) Those who are full of BULLSH!T will get the **** jobs, and can apply for promotion to Director of Intensity Programming (DIPSH!T).

If you have further questions, please direct them to Shiv, the Head Of Training, Special High Intensity Tuning (HOTSH!T)

On a more serious note, I really like that name... pretty catchy, even here in the land of Dellionares lost.

Now I just need to get my hands on SMART...

shiv, wouldn't the intake manifold be contributing a little to the slower spool as it has shorter runners and a larger volume to raise the rpm band of the motor?

It's always been a goal of ours to offer and support an engine control system that is accessible and easy for the end user to use. Encouraging others to tune safely was a tough proposition because doing so used to rely on experience/knowledge that only came from lots of tuning hours on the dyno and on the road/track. The hard part was knowing where in the map to be conservative and where to be aggressive and how this relationship changed based upon how the car is going to be driven and under what conditions.

Since the SMART logic makes it so you no longer have go selectively detune any particular portion of the map, the rest of the tuning process is easy. All you have are boost and AFR targets that computers like the XEDE are really good at zero-ing in on. Everything else (partial throttle mapping, timing, dynamic fuel enrichments) that used to be up to the experienced tuner's discretion is now handled automatically by the XEDE. It's finally gotten to the point where the complete novice/EM newb with a SMART XEDE can, within minutes, "outmap" even the most experienced tuners with any form of non-adaptive engine management (stand-alone, reflash or piggy-back).
