On the BMI bout the EVO, they said that the undertray was designed for optimum aerodynamics.

it is there to **** you off everytime you need to get to something in that area. It does serve a purpose sorta..i mean it does guide air toward/in the general direction of the brakes....and it catches socket wrenches that slip out of your hands.
Stock one is a pita. The thing is,your car needs it for several reasons. First of all, it will run a lot cooler with it on under track conditions or even on a hot day. Air is forced though the radiator and fmic with one. Without it, the temps I log are 5-8 degrees celsius higher.

Second, several cars running without it have experienced catastrophic engine failures because they ran over stuff and got kicked up and damaged the oil pan, filter etc and they
had no undertray to protect things.

As an alternative, you can make a new one out of aluminum that is permanently mounted to the bumper via rivets. Then you just pull the bumper off with 4-6 bolts when you need access. It is much easier to take the whole bumper off than the undertray. Doing it in aluminum as the added advantage of strengthening your bumper.

We have done that for several cars for roadracing and it cost around a 60 bucks worth of aluminum sheet(1/8) and a plasma cutter + some rivets. Looks good too

well hell, i think taking the undertray off is easier than the front bumper.

you gotta take all the aggravating clips out of the bumer to get it off the undertray.

ive had mine off for a while, just because i had been doing so much work on the car. its about to go back on now tho.

IMHO- 470whp on shivs dyno would be about ~520-530whp on TT's dynojet......using a 12% correction factor that seems to be consistent with mine and smoggy's numbers on both dynos....

thats the point though, with the aluminum undertray, you can keep it permanently attached to the bumper...so all you have to do is remove the few bolts holding the bumper on and the entire tray will come off with it

I just HATE the stock undertray, so I look forward to trying something like this. Thanks Mark. Where should I get the Aluminum? What gauge?

IMO the hardest part about removing the bumper is the undertray...those plastic screws are a PITA...after you remove them 3-4 times they are useless

Congrats Smoggy! Upgrade that fuel system and go run some crazy track times! It is nice to see what can be done with a piggy back and a bunch of stock parts.

Now take it to the track and show us a MPH. That's a true measure of power.

IIRC Ron went 415whp then 490whp on the TT dyno?

I wonder how low the DD dyno will be reading once its up and going again.....for now the lowest reading dyno haapens to be the Mustang @ Gruppe-S.
