Picked up my new 9 on thursday last week from Mark..
My experience with South Coast/Mark was a very positive one. Flew into John Wayne Thursday morning. Called Mark, was there about the same time as we grabbed our bags and picked us up. Went back to the dealership, and in less than 30 min, paperwork was signed and the car was mine. The whole experience was very satisfying and all the people at the dealership were very nice/accomodating. I would rate it as one of the best experiences I have had(purchasing over 15 cars at dealerships over my life)... If you think that they are a dealership that sits on cars and are waiting for a deal, don't. based on all the banners I saw around the place, THEY MOVE CARS...
The whole dealership has a kinda laid back aura around the place, and overall made us feel very comfortable. Overall, I would like to thank Mark for the great job selling the car...
Now for the bad...
We flew down and planned on staying a few days to play golf and sightsee. If you are coming in from out of state, have Mark send you the paperwork ahead of time, sign it, and then register the car prior to picking it up. Cali doesn't have any way to buy a car and stay for a few days without actually registering the car there. Mark will give you a one-trip permit, which is basically a one-way pass out of the state(told by more than the dealership that the local pd will leave you alone, but chp will impound your car if they find you driving around the state on a one-trip). I spent an hour at the dmv and on the phone with the CHP trying to figure out a way around it, and bottom line, register in cali or get out of the state(basically shows they don't want your tourism $$). I had my wife fedex me an Idaho 30 day temp permit to allow us to drive there and get home. If you are thinking about flying there and drive home, research this first.(props to Mark for loaning us a car to get to the dmv, and faxing the stuff to Idaho for me, they really bent over to help me get a solution to this)...
Once again, 2 thumbs up for Mark and the South Coast team. They are what a dealership experience should be, and as I said if you are looking for new, don't wait..
btw, forgot to tell Mark.. I liked the suit...

dang... it was a different story when we bought a used car from cali... the title came with the plate (CA plate) and we were able to drive around for 2 weeks in cali sightseeing and then liesurly drive home... I just re-registered and transfered to an IL title within 30 days (as required in my state) and all was good..
..but this is a good tidbit to know! thanks

dealership will sell you a cali registration for(Mark was just guessing) around $250-300. I would believe(and Mark can chime in on this one) that you paid for the cost of the plate in the costs of the car, and would have paid a little less if you had taken the car w/o the plate?? I noticed that a lot of the used cars on the lot had plates on them already.
anyways.. if you are buying new, arrange for a temp plate from your own state, or register prior to coming down..

If only I could sell my '03..... Didn't think it would be this hard! I'm very tempted to just buy a new one from Mark, then sell my '03 at my leisure, but I hate to have another car sitting around not getting used for a couple of months.
well, apparently Mark isn't in today.. I needed to see if it were possible to get some long distance pricing on possible trade in so I'll have to try back tomorrow.. Ideally, I'd love to drive there in one car, and drive back in another (get the tax savings if I can get a decent trade in price)

. Minus tax savings :/at least you don't have as far to drive...
I dont' want to drive out all the way to Cali and then find out I can't get swquat for my trade in... I know they use their NADA books and what market resale is to determine trade-in so i want to see what kind of pricing I can get given I give them all the accurate info (one owner, no accidents, options, mileage, etc.)

I have a question i hope i can get an answer to ....... i know there is a non refundable deposit of $1000 for the Evos from south coast. Is this money put towards the down payment or just given to the dealer ( or what
) ????
Reason is, i just got some money from my dad ( he had a good start to '06
) which will more than cover the deposit. I didn't get my housing allowance this week ( housing office b*stards ) so now i'll get an even bigger pay check come may 15. I might be getting my IX sooner than i think.
it is your downpayment and goes toward the purchase of the car. I paid exactly what the sales price was plus $15 one way trip permit, $48 dealer doc fee(lowest one I have ever seen) and cali tax since I picked it up.
you really need to do some research into the licensing thing. if you pay to plate in cali and live in nevada, some states have a law that you have to switch plates over 30-60 days after arriving into the state, so if you pay the 2-300 in cali, thinking you can use in nevada, you may be wrong. do some calling on this. I am only listing my experiences that are relavent in idaho..
good luck and you won't be disappointed buying at south coast
