Awesome!
Goes to show, never trust a hair covered mascot. They could be a child molester or a lousy driver tucked in there for all you know.

I've been using that TIG machine for about 2 years now and I love it! I wish I didn't have to pay for mine though. Get a real bottle. You'll go through that weak little bottle in no time.

Do you have the same Thermal Arc machine? It is seriously sweet, when you look at the size, weight, and power hog factor of a rectifier based (analog) machine by Miller or Lincoln, it's crazy. Yeah the bottle is baby, but if I burn through it too fast I'll just pay the difference at the local shop and get a bigger one when I fill up.

Welding Aluminum is butter with this thing set on pulsed.

So is that tig 120? Do you not own a mig? Seems like it'd be sweet to have a tig, but a mig would be a necessary evil for tacking and things you dont want too much heat into.

Do you have a compressor? I'm in the market for a welder and a compressor. Seems like you have to go 240 for a decent compressor, so i'll have to have some ran out to the garage.

Soap box ftw!

I didn't know that the sonics mascot was chewbacca!? That guy sucks at driving. Looks like he's good at waving to the crowd though....

I got mine done at munoa performance down in orem. they did a good job and i would reccomend them. as for installations i would call up solidautoworks. i know cobb now does tuning also but you have to have an accessport which will set you back about $700

munoa's # is 801-358-0738
solidautoworks # is 801-478-1270

JID, I have a Thermal Arc 185 TSW. Is that a 185 or the "new" 200? As for power consumption, I've ran 160 AMPs on high frequency AC on a 30 amp breaker. A transform based machine is lucky to do 120 amps on a 40 amp breaker. Then the fact that it's a solid 185 amps of welding power in a 40 pound box, you can't go wrong. Too bad they changed the name from 185 to 200 and upped the price from $1600 to $2600. I picked mine up before the price hike. Now I'd probably pick up the Dynasty 200 DX for the extra $400.

Aluminum is easy with this thing, that's for sure. I don't use the pulser though, just high frequency and a well tuned offset gets solid penetration and excellent cleaning.

They are 220 V machines. MIG is nice for quick welding, but you can control the heat and quality a LOT better with a TIG on any weld. I think I can control my TIG down to as little as 5 amps, or as much as 185 amps. A crappy MIG weld is about 1000 times better then a crappy TIG weld though.

It's the Arc Master 185, I asked them about the 200 and they said it really wasn't worth the extra cost - which was $800 or something. I paid $1950 for the kit (pedal, tourch, etc).

efick, I don't have a MIG welder, but I KNOW a million people with them so if I need one I can just go borrow one. You can tack stuff no problem with the TIG welder, and the welds are much better when done properly. The only down sides of a TIG welder are: expensive, higher voltage requirements, requires more skill to weld, and the process is slow compared to MIG. But the flexibility is awesome - you can weld about any material, the welds are the highest quality.

I have an upright 110V compressor which uses a diaphragm based compressor pump. It's compact, but it's SUPER loud and kinda low flow. Looks like this kinda...

If I could do it again I'd buy one with the good ol' belt drive twins. Here's one that runs 110V.

So yesterday I finished off the shopping spree tool extravaganza! I had to go to 3 different stores to get all stuff because I wanted specific brands and models, all and all it was pretty damn fun.

12 inch Sliding Compound Miter saw. This stand has all sorts of slides, and supports, and is power-assisted raising and lowering!

Another Li-Ion drill so I don't have to change out bits when pre-drilling and installing screws.

Sweet German made angle grinder with tool-less changing of discs and variable speed. Grind Grind.

Doode, jid, i'm jealous.

Right now i'm just sucking the life out of vesko's shop to work on the bavaria...lol.

I'd like to be able to do most of the stuff at my own house though.

I never thought i would have need of two drills at the same time, but you made be a believer!
