Just put my downpipe on yesterday evening. It SCREAMS!! It's loud when you're punching it, but it helps the car haul even faster. It takes the deep flow from the magnaflow muffler and adds a raspy higher pitched sound to it. It's obnoxious, but roll up your windows and turn up the stereo and it's easy to ignore. The power gains are worth it.

I had a heck of a time getting the old pipe off, though. This winter's salt had rusted the two rear nuts onto the bolts It took a lot of swearing and torching to get the damn things off. Also put defoulers on the rear O2 sensor, and no CEL light yet.

Question: I have a Magnaflow Muffler (not straight through) and my exhaust sounds sweet right now. Deep and throaty... no problems whatsoever. If I add the downpipe, what will I have to do to my exhaust system to keep the same relative sound quality? Resonators? If so, where I can I buy these? Are there any other options?

Also, I've heard the only real restriction on our exhaust system is that crimped down section of pipe before (towards the engine) the cat. Is the fact that the DP elimnates this the reason for its effectiveness? If not, what does the DP do other than that?

In other words, what is wrong with the stock one?

Thanks for reading.

The performance gains are hard to beat. Add another resonator. That will help with the noise.

The stock downpipe has that crimp in it which causes all that loss in power. The only resonator I have right now is the stock one in the mid-pipe. You have a few options with RRM's downpipe - learn to ignore the noise; add a resonator (what I'll probably do); or add a high-flow cat. You'll still have the benefits of the aftermarket pipe since that kink in the pipe will be gone. Plus, RRM's pipe just has smoother, better flowing bends in general. Looking at the stock pipe then RRM's pipe is night and day.

Ours does flow so much better. Plus it is ceramic coated and far superior to stock DP in every way.

No doubt about that... It's been about 2 weeks I've had it on... You can TOTALLY tell the gains in power and don't really feel anything lost in the low end, which I was really happy about because I was worried about losing tq & hp low... but it's designed great & that's not a worry at all... Next up Piggyback!!! ha ha...!!!

So is a resonator just a larger diameter tube situated somewhere in the exhaust system? If I buy a glasspack and weld it into the midpipe is that a "resonator"?

A resonator is a section of pipe that is made to absorb/change the sound frequency of your exhaust to get rid of the higher frequency tones that are so annoying (such as the raspy honda fart can sound)

Magna Flow exhaust huh. That would be the reason that it sounds obnoxious. I have the Evo 5 Greddy and th rrm down pipe and it sounds low and great. Right parts for the right job. What you spend is what your going to get cheap and maybe fast, moderate and maybe fast or expensive and right parts and get HP&TQ.

Magnaflow is not necesarily the "cheap route"
Set up is good... reason it sounds obnoxious is because I'm running w/o a cat...
