Yes. You need a harmonic balancer unless you have a fully built and balanced motor. At a minimum, there are lots of sensors all around the motor that could flag error codes due to vibrations and stuff, and at worse cause premature crank bearing wear.

The DSM daily drivers have stayed away from these things for years now. I think the general thinking by us was that it's well worth the extra money for the Buschur Racing lightweight crank pully that has a harmonic balancer built into it. Call it a form of insurance. Also, good luck passing tech if you are running an underdrive pully.

I'm not trying to bash the product you are getting out to the people. I'm actually glad to see more aftermarket stuff opening up for the Ralliart. However, I'm concerned that the people who are really wanting to do this are also the ones who want to race their cars. It's unfortunate that this might prevent them from doing so, though.

So can anybody tell me if my fears are justified from my previous post ~2 pages ago? It keeps me from committing to something like this.

I've never heard of them warping, unless they were made too thin, to make them ultra-light. Something like what he's posted pictures of should have no problems with the heat.

Look at the following pics and observe where the sensor and the trigger plate is. If the lightened pulley causes more vibration (especially at higher RPMs), it would cause a misfire. Someone with more knowledge might be able to explain this better.

A misfire can be caused from many things. My friends stock 3G eclipse had many misfires. I am not saying that the Stealth/3000GT pulley didn't cause your misfires, I am saying that as your pictures cite it was not properly designed for a 3G eclipse 6Gxx application. I have seen no support showing that in the 4Gxx engine that a crank pulley being lighter or not will cause any such problem. If there was in fact a problem I would imagine a company like Unorthodox would not be producing pullies for any 4Gxx series engine. They do produce pullies for 4Gxx engines therefore proving this is not a concern. I have read more about this than probably anyone on here.

The pictures you posted do not show me where a problem lies. If the pulley made in that application lines up with the marks and fits the application and is believed to cause your misfire code then I believe it shouldn't be used. If there is a misfire to be found with a RA pulley I will find it before shipping. I will also be testing it another RA also to see about the results.

Nobody is asking that you commit to buy this pulley. I would personally like to post all test data and prove that it works well before I guarantee any actual purchases. Furthermore if everything comes out good then I would hope you would buy. When I buy these from the shop I need to buy 20 of them. That is a lot of cheddar out of my pocket if these don't sell. SO I would appreciate if you are interested that you add your name to the list.
